I’m so excited to be able to announce that I have been invited to guest design for Sketch Saturday throughout August. If you’re not familiar with Sketch Saturday they are, as the name suggests, a sketch based challenge that goes live on Saturdays. Each week there is a sponsor with a prize to be won, and this week the challenge is sponsored by Star Stampz.
My first step was to print The Music Conductor digi stamp from our sponsor onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I then die cut it using a Sizzix Circle die. Whilst the sketch shows an oval I felt a circle suited the image better, and the rules do allow for minor adjustments to the elements of the sketch, so long as the sketch is still recognisable. I decided to go with some light blues and white for the conductor’s outfit, and gave him blonde hair as yellow nicely complements blue.
Having completed my colouring I set the image panel aside to work on my card base. I picked a light blue card base to go with the colours I had used on my image, and topped it with a panel of kraft patterned paper featuring music notes. Using my focal panel as a guide for where to position it, I added my sentiment which is from Lawn Fawn’s Critter Concert which I stamped with Altenew Dusk ink. I also used Altenew Ocean Waves ink to edge the focal panel to add some interest to the card.
I used double-sided tape to adhere my patterned paper panel to the card base, then popped up my circle panel with foam tape.
I’m pretty pleased with how this card came together, despite one or two issues along the way. Initially I wasn’t sure what to do for the background, and I’m very glad that I not only remembered I had some of the patterned paper, but that I had a big enough piece left to use for this! The sketch is a fun one with a lot of possibilities to it. I also really like the image – I had not heard of Star Stampz before this but I’m glad I found them because they have some very sweet images. Definitely worth checking out!
Love,
Lady Joyful
