With the heatwave still ongoing I’ve been in a summery mood, and that definitely influenced my design for my latest Skull and Cross Buns DT project! Despite being on holiday I’m very busy at the moment trying to get ahead on my design team projects before I head back to work next week, so I thought it would be good to try and make a very quick card. This one layer fruity card came together in just a smidge under 10 minutes!
I started by stamping the sentiment from the Tropical Party stamp set onto my white card base using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I then got started on stamping my patter.
I carefully inked up the pineapple from the Tropical Party stamp set with a couple of inks from the Hero Art’s Hero’s Pineapple ink cube set. I used the Butterbar ink for the body of the pineapple, and the green apple for the top. I carefully inked up with the corner of the ink pads in an effort to ensure the right colours ended up in the correct places. I then stamped my way across the card, angling the pineapples this way and that to give a party feel to the card.
Once I’d finished all my pineapples, which was less than halfway through my allotted time, I felt that the card didn’t seem finished. It felt a bit boring. So I decided that with plenty(!) of time left I would add in some watermelon slices too. For the watermelon slices I used Simon Says Stamp inks from the Fresh Fruit hybrid cube set – the red is Watermelon and the green is Key Lime. I again worked my way across the card filling in the area of the pattern until I was happy with it.
As a final touch I added a little more colour with some Nuvo Drops. I used Limoncello and Strawberry Coulis Jewel Drops. Jewel Drops, unlike Crystal Drops, dry translucent, which I thought was a good look for the design I had. Being on white card the colours are very true, whilst if I’d used them on a coloured card base or over some inking then they would have picked up some of the colour below giving a slightly different look.
I’m really pleased with how this card turned out and it was definitely a fun challenge to create a card in under ten minutes. The design isn’t exactly what I’d originally planned, but I think it worked out well nonetheless. It’s fun and colourful, and works nicely as a one layer card. The fruity stamps from the stamp set are definitely fun to work with!
Love,
Lady Joyful
