Supplies:
- Unity Stamp – Spring To Go
- Unity Stamp – Your Only Limit
- Kraft card
- White card
- Acetate
- Double-sided tape
- Fiskars paper trimmer
- MISTI Stamping Tool
- Craft knife
- MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink
- Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers
- Fine iridescent white glitter
- Love From Lizi iridescent glitter peel-offs
Process:
- First cut a piece of heavy weight (~300gsm) kraft card stock to 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. Score at 4 1/4 inches to create a side fold card.
- Use a bone folder to reinforce the score line of the card base, then set it to one side.
- Cut a panel of white card stock to 3 3/4 by 5 inches. This will be the top panel for the card.
- Place the white panel into a MISTI or other stamp tool. Make sure to remove the foam from the MISTI (or prepare your other brand stamping tool appropriately) ready for using a cling foam stamp. Alternatively you may prefer to use an acrylic block.
- Position the coffee cup stamp from Unity Stamp’s Spring To Go stamp onto the panel in the desired position. Close the MISTI door to pick up the stamp, then ink up with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.
- Once the stamp is sufficiently inked ensure that the paper is correctly positioned into the corner of the MISTI, then close the door of the stamp positioner and press down to stamp. Ink up and stamp again if required to get a crisp, black impression.
- Remove the stamped panel from the MISTI. Working on a cutting mat, use a craft knife to carefully remove the inside portion of the coffee cup. This will create the window of the shaker.
- Next colour in the image. You could colour before cutting if you prefer, though cutting the extra card stock away first reduces wastage of ink. I used Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to do the colouring, but you could use any medium you prefer and change up the colours to your, or the recipient’s, preference.
- Return the panel to the MISTI and prepare to stamp the sentiment using Unity Stamp’s Your Only Limit and MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. Place a piece of acetate over the panel and stamp onto the acetate to check the position of the sentiment. Once the position is correct, remove the acetate and stamp onto the panel.
- Add double-sided tape to the back of the panel around the area of the coffee cup. Remove the backing paper from the tape and adhere a piece of acetate into place, covering the opening.
- Before adhering the panel into place on the card base check the position of the shaker area on the card base. Add white glitter directly to the card base in the area that the window of the panel will be.
- Cover the back of the white panel (excluding the coffee cup area) with double-sided tape. Make sure that the tape around the shaker area has no gaps, as this could allow the glitter to escape when shaking. Remove the backing paper from all of the tape and press the panel firmly onto the card base.
- Finish off the card by applying a border of Love From Lizi iridescent glitter peel-offs all around the edges of the white panel.
- Give the card a shake to ensure that the glitter will not escape. Being a flat shaker there is not a lot of movement. The less filling used, the more movement there will be. You may also find that the glitter clings to the acetate. Flicking the acetate can help to release any glitter that sticks.
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial for this quick, clean and simple flat shaker card. It’s a great way to use glitter that will keep it contained and avoid getting it into the environment – important if you want to cut down on micro-plastics, or don’t want to be finding glitter around your house for the next month! And of course it makes a very pretty encouragement card for anyone. If you make a card inspired by this one I’d love it if you tag me on social media (you can find me on Facebook and Instagram) so that I can see it. And I’d also really appreciate your feedback on this new style of blog post – should I keep sharing step-by-step photo tutorials, or do you prefer my usual posts?
Love,
Lady Joyful
