Using Natural Elements | Monday Makes/CIC 457/LFL October Kit

Some of you may know that I’ve got quite behind on my creating since been ill a month or two ago. I’m catching up as quickly as I can, and one way to help with that is to combine some of the things I want to do. Today I’m combining three – this post and video is not only today’s Monday Makes, but it’s also my design team project for the new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge and also more inspiration for the Love From Lizi October card kit.

Card 1 – Autumn Scarecrow

The first thing I did for card one, which is my Cupcake Inspiration Challenge, was to print out the Autumn Scarecrow digi from Bugaboo onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. Bugaboo is the sponsor for our new fall-themed challenge at Cupcake Inspirations, and by entering the challenge you can win $12 to spend with them.

I coloured the image with my  Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers then cut it out with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval Die. I initially used a larger one but it wasn’t fitting the design I wanted for the card, so I carefully partially cut with a smaller oval then fussy cut around the overhanging portions of the image.

I cut a panel of blue leaf patterned paper from the Love From Lizi kit and adhered it to a piece of vellum which I had embossed using the embossing folder which was also from the kit. I then adhered the layered panel to my card base. I used some double-sided tape to add a strip of burlap across the card and topped it with a strip of the copper ribbon from the kit.

Next I laid three of the skeleton leaves from the kit into position on the card, then pressed my image, to which I had added a strip of double-sided tape, onto them to pick them up. I then added foam tape to the back of the panel and adhered it to the card base, completing the card.

HLS Anything Goes With Dies Challenge – Use Dies

Card 2 – Simple Leaves

I used the skeleton leaves as my natural elements again on the second card. For this one I wanted to use the pretty purple ribbon from the Love From Lizi kit. I measured the ribbon and created six score lines on the card base, three above and three below where the ribbon would lie. I then used double sided tape to add the ribbon. I laid the remaining three skeleton leaves onto the ribbon in the position I wanted and pressed some of the copper ribbon, which also had double-sided tape on the back, over the top of them which adhered them into place. Finally I stamped a sentiment using Avery Elle’s Petal Panel stamp set and Seeedless Preserves Distress Ink.

Creatalicious Challenges – Anything Goes and Optional: Purple

Mod Squad – Fall Thank You

Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday – Gratitude

Card 3 – Bark Leaf

As well as the skeleton leaves the kit had some leaves cut from bark. I wanted to create an example using some of those as well. I decided to use a panel I had created in my video about using embossing folders. I wrapped some of the natural twine from the kit around the panel then adhered it to some black fun foam. I let the foam do double duty as both my mat and my dimension. I adhered the panel to a red card base, then used Glossy Accents to attach the bark piece.

CAS-ual Fridays – Photo Inspiration

Kat Scrappiness – Welcome Fall

……….

I had a lot of fun creating these cards. Natural elements like leaves are great to add to cards, particularly autumn-themed ones. They can be really striking whether they are added as an embellishment (as in my first card) or are the focus of the image in themselves (as the second two). Remember you can enter the challenge at Cupcake Inspirations to win a $12 gift card to Bugaboo. And if you’d like to play with these leaf elements yourself the Love From Lizi October card kit is still available for purchase.

  2. Great idea to use the fun foam for double-duty. Looks great as a mat. The background looks great too! Thanks for playing along at the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge!
