TMR 99 | Falling Leaf Shaker | Mechanical/Moving Part

It’s time for another challenge at The Male Room. As always we’re looking for masculine themed projects, but this time our theme is mechanical or moving parts. At first I was a bit stumped. I had ideas but wasn’t sure how best to implement them. I. The end I decided to keep things relatively simple and go with a shaker card for my moving parts.

For this card I used various elements from the Love From Lizi October card kit. I started with a panel of white card the same size as my card base. I stamped one of the sentiments from the Hello Autumn stamp set onto the card base using gradient inking. I started with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide for the top part, then Wild Honey Distress Oxide, followed by Spiced Marmalade Distress ink, and finally Tea Dye Distress ink.

Next I worked on die cutting my shaker windows using the Small Leaf die from the kit. I created three windows. I also cut the leaves into the same position on a panel of craft foam for adding the dimension to the shaker. I used my craft knife to cut a bit of extra space around the cut areas in the foam to allow the shaker filling to move more easily.

I adhered some acetate to my panel to create the shaker windows, then adhered the craft foam to the back of the panel and used the Hello Autumn sequins from the kit to fill the shaker windows. I then took a panel I’d created a couple of months ago when playing with alcohol inks and adhered that to create the back of the shaker windows. Alternatively you could use the pearlised orange card from the kit to create a similar look.

I adhered the shaker panel to my card base, but felt I still needed to add something else to finish it off. After consulting with my husband I decided to use the Copper Mirror Peel-offs to add decorative corners to the top right and bottom left of the card.

I’m rather pleased with this card. It might not be groundbreaking in terms of its moving element, but it’s a fun and not overly difficult design. The clean and simple look and the Autumn colours work nicely. I am really happy with the colour I got on the sentiment, though I think I ended up stamping I a bit wonky… Be sure to head over to the challenge blog to see the projects from the rest of the DT for further inspiration.
