MKC Digitals December Release | Winter Wishes

It’s time for the new release at MKC Digitals and we’re definitely getting in the Christmas spirit! You can see more of the release in our Facebook Group. The shop is currently down for maintenance but the new release images will all be available once it’s back up, and there is a special on Christmas/Winter images for the entire month of December, so there will still be time to save 40% off that section when the website is up and running again.

I started by printing my image. The Winter Wishes image actually comes in two versions – one with the snowflakes, and one without. I printed the snowflake version directly onto my cardbase, then printed the version without snowflakes separately after ensuring it was sized identically.

I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers for my colouring. I used some soft blues to add colour to the body of the snowman along with some of the snowflakes on the card base. I used darker blues for the mouth. I decided on yellow for edging the banner to contrast the blue, and then went with a green hat. Another option would be to match the edging on the banner with the hat coulour. I went with greys to add shading to the banner, as well as to colour the snowman’s buttons. Finally I used some orange for the carrot nose, and brown for the stick arms.

Having completed my colouring I used my scissors to fussy cut the image out. The frontmost arm was a little tricky to cut around and I did bring in my craft knife to help get into some of the more fiddly areas of it. Overall though it was fairly simple to cut around.

I covered the uncoloured snowman on the card base with a low profile double-sided tape then carefully pressed the coloured and fussy cut image over the top of it.

This was quite a simple and straightforward card to make. The slight added dimension gives a little extra interest to the card and makes it a bit different from the one layer cards I often make. As I was creating the card I thought that it could be fun to go over the snowflakes with an embossing pen and then emboss them with a glittery embossing powder. Maybe I’ll do something like that next time. Don’t forget to check out the blog, Facebook Group and shop to keep up with the rest of the news on the release. The other design team members have made some fabulous projects, and you won’t want to miss them!

  1. What a lovely image and great colouring – I love the way you still kept him white on the white background – Thanks for joining in with us at Sweet Stampin’ this week.
