Embossing With Dies | Meow Cat

I’ve been doing some pet sitting work recently, and when one of the jobs finished I wanted to make a quick card to give to the owner as a thank you for choosing me for the task. I decided to take the opportunity at the same time to play with a new product I got for Christmas and try out a technique I’ve been wanting to play with for ages. The technique is embossing with dies, and the product I got was the Enlarged Embossing Pads from Spellbinders. I’ve had these on my wishlist for so long, but never got around to buying them for myself so I was very excited to receive them as a Christmas present.

I started making my card my creating the embossed effect, as trying the technique was what I was most excited about. I used my Sizzix Circle Framelits which I held together as a set using some Washi tape. I then placed them directly onto my card base and ran through my die cutting machine as an embossing sandwich, with the addition of the Embossing Pads. My machine tends to run on the tight side with embossing so I did choose the narrower pad. The dies still cut through very slightly in a couple of places, so next time I think I would open my multi-purpose platform completely to reduce the pressure just a little bit.

I set my embossed card base to one side and started working on the decorative elements for the card. As I had been cat-sitting I wanted to make a cat, and I wanted it to at least somewhat look like the cat I’d been caring for. I chose The Greeting Farm’s Purfect Cats stamp set (which I believe is now retired, but any cat stamp would do) and used the tabby looking cat as the cat in question was a small brown tabby.

I stamped my chosen cat onto a snippet of white, alcohol-marker friendly card with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I then coloured in the image using Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers before cutting out the coordinating dies.

Next I created my sentiment. I wanted to keep it very general but felt there was still something needed to finish the card. I decided to just use the meow word that came in the stamp set, and white heat emboss it on a snippet of black card stock. I then trimmed it down and adhered both the sentiment and the cat to the card base with some foam tape for a little dimension.

I had so much fun making this card and trying out the new-to-me technique. It’s quick and simple to do but the result really is effective. I’m really happy with the fun clean and simple design of this card, and I am looking forward to using this technique more in future.

Love,

Lady Joyful

  1. Super card and the embossing is brilliant Charlotte! A pity you can’t come and doggy sit in Hampshire if ever we needed it. You could have free run of the craft room at the same time as dog sitting Dudley 🙂

    Hugs
