It’s time for the very first Cupcake Inspiration Challenge of the year! We’re kicking off 2019 with a “something new” theme, which is open to interpreting however you like. Maybe you’d like to use a new crafty product, play with a new technique, or just make a new-something card – new year, new home, new car, new pet… I did a bit of each, using new to me products, trying a new technique, and creating a new baby card with them.
I began by creating the glitter paste for my card. I did this my using my palette knife to combine lots of loose glitter with some Deco Art Media Modeling Paste. I then spread it over my panel of white card stock through the Leafy Texture stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop. I then set the panel aside to dry, removing the stencil and cleaning it and my tools immediately.
Whilst the panel dried I worked on colouring my image. The image I chose is from Sparkle N Sprinkle, our sponsor for this challenge. I first printed the image from the digi version of the Baby Oh Baby set (also available as rubber stamps) onto some alcohol marker friendly paper, then coloured it with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and fussy cut it out.
I used Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue to adhere the image to the fully dried glittery panel. I then weighted the image down whilst the glue set to make sure it held in place properly.
Meanwhile I worked on my sentiment. I chose to use a die that came in the Love From Lizi December card kit, cutting it from a snippet of black card which I backed with double-sided tape. I used the words from the negative portion of the die, with the positive portion as a guide to help me get everything lined up.
Finally I added foam tape to the back of the panel and adhered it to my white card base.
I had so much fun making this card and really enjoyed the process. I’m very happy with how my DIY glitter paste turned out, and I think it makes a very pretty background for the card. I love that turning the glitter into a paste helps to trap the glitter and make sure it won’t shed and get everywhere. I’d love to hear how it turns out if you give this a try yourself.
