I don’t have a foiling machine, but I do have some foils which I received in card kits. There are a few different ways to use foils without a foiling machine (anyone interested in a video about it?) For this card I used them with alcohol inks.
I began by creating my alcohol ink background. I wanted it to give an impression of a leafy, jungle scene so I went for a green look. The colours used were Dandelion and Pistachio (available in a set with Coral), along with Sunshine Yellow and Stream.
First I sprinkled alcohol ink blending solution over the Yupo paper, then added each colour randomly, one at a time. I used a silicone air blower (or ‘squeezey lemon’!) to move the ink around a bit, and kept dropping ink and blending solution into the paper until I was happy with how it looked.
After allowing the panel to dry a bit so that there were just a few tacky areas remaining I pressed my chosen piece of foil over the top. I went with Gina K’s Jelly Bean Green which is a yellow-green foil. I gently rubbed over the foil, and then lifted up. The foil stuck to any areas of the background that were tacky, adding some fun elements of shine to the panel.
I trimmed my panel down to a piece the same height but a bit narrower than my card base. I then added narrow strips of black card to each side of the panel. I used another snippet of black card to create my sentiment strip, white heat embossing “happy birthday” from the Skull and Cross Buns Quirky Sentiments stamp set.
I used double-sided tape to adhere my background panel to the card base, then popped up the sentiment strip with foam tape. I then added a red parrot embellishment on top of the sentiment strip, completing my card.
I had so much fun making this card. Alcohol inks are always enjoyable to play with, and adding foil really enhances the designs. Adding the parrot would have been easier if I had adhered the sentiment strip down flat rather than popping it up, but it turned out well enough anyway. I really like how well the red parrot stands out against the green background, too.
Love,
Lady Joyful

I love your background. I have gotten so many ideas in this challenge, which is great for me as alcohol inks are a huge struggle for me.
