Valentine’s is almost upon us, but we’re thinking ahead with our always anything Christmas goes challenge at Christmas at Sweet Stampin’. This month we’re welcoming some new members to our team – I hope you’ll head over to greet them, and be inspired by their fabulous creations.
I’ve gone very clean and simple with my card which uses a new-to-me stamp and die set from Lawn Fawn. I started by stamping the three adorable birds and the branch from the Winter Sparrows stamp set onto a snippet of white card. I used Hero Arts’ Caramel ink for the branch, and MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink for the birds.
Next I coloured in my bird images. I used Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to do my colouring. For the birds themselves I went with bright yellow, and a touch of darker yellow-orange for their beaks. I then used navy blue shades to colour their accessories. Once the colouring was completed I cut all of the elements with the coordinating dies and set them to one side.
Next I worked on creating my background panel. I used the same blues I’d used on my birds and also bought in one shade just a step lighter. I worked from darkest at the outside towards lightest at the bottom and centre of the panel. I worked in layers until I was happy with the coverage. I then added stars by applying dots with white gel pen as well as a glitter gel pen.
I used my paper cutter to slightly trim down my background panel. In hindsight I probably would have let it be a little taller than it ended up. I then adhered the die cut elements with Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue onto the starry panel.
Using the focal panel as a guide I stamped my sentiment from the same Winter Sparrows stamp set with some navy blue ink. I then adhered the focal panel below it. As a final touch and to tie in the yellow of the birds a bit more, I added some bright yellow Love From Lizi peel-offs around the edges of the focal panel.
I enjoy making CAS cards. This one I struggled with a little as I kept feeling like it needs to have something else added to it. I resisted the temptation though, and I do think that the design works well as it is. I really like how well the colours go together, and though they may not be traditional Christmas colours they still have a nice Christmas feel on this card.
Love,
Lady Joyful
