We’re half way through our current Cupcake Inspiration Challenge, which is a stash challenge. We’re looking for buttons to be used on your projects. I don’t use buttons on my projects very often so found this to be a bit of a challenge, but came up with the idea for this card shortly after making last week’s one. Our sponsor for the challenge is Kitty Bee Designs – play along with us for a chance to win a prize, and remember to follow our rules to be eligible!
I started by colouring the penguin image, which I had printed onto alcohol marker friendly paper. I coloured it with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers, then fussy cut it out. I left a slight border when cutting. Usually I cut right to the lines, but as the hat had a delicate string I thought it best to leave a border.
For my background panel I cut down a snippet of watercoloured card that I’d made for a previous card. I adhered it to my card base and edged with black glitter peel-offs. I then adhered a panel of white, which I’d die cut with a Kat Scrappiness Stitched Scalloped Border Die, over the top.
I popped up the penguin image with foam tape, then used Glossy Accents to add a variety of star buttons to the sky panel. I added more stats using my glitter gel pen. I used the gel pen to add glitter to the bell on the penguin’s hat too, but didn’t like how it looked so I ended up covering it with a small pompom instead.
I’m quite pleased with how this card turned out. The penguin is really cute and I’m happy with my colouring of him. I also really like the use of the buttons for stars. I think it’s a fun and effective way to use up the buttons from my stash. Be sure to head over to the challenge to share your projects using buttons!
Love,
Lady Joyful
