CIC 465 | Aloha | Plaid | Newton’s Nook

It’s a brand new week and time for a brand new challenge at Cupcake Inspirations! This time we’re looking for projects that use plaid. It can be stamped, stenciled or patterned paper, as long as we can see plaid somewhere on the project. Our sponsor for the challenge is Newton’s Nook, who are providing a prize to one lucky winner. I started my card by creating my background panel using the Plaid Stencil Set from Newton’s Nook. I used a combination of Squeezed Lemonade and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide inks to make my pattern, and left plenty of white space in it to keep a clean look. I trimmed the panel down and adhered it to my card base with Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue, before edging it with pink glitter peel-offs from Love From Lizi.

Next I created my focal panel. I stamped an image and sentiment from Aloha Newton onto a snippet of white card which I had rounded with my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink, which is alcohol marker friendly. I then used my  Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour the image. I went with pinks and yellows again, as with my background plaid, for the highlight colours.

I used foam tape to pop my focal panel up on my card base, overlapping the plaid background panel. I then finished off with some Yellow Bird glitter Nuvo Drops as a final embellishment.

I’m quite pleased with this card. I enjoyed playing with the plaid stencils to create the background and think they’ll be fun to use in future. It’s always nice to be able to customise the colours in the pattern to suit a particular need.
