15 Minute Card | Maaike’s 3000 Subscriber Hop | Friendship

I am very happy to be participating in a video hop to celebrate Maaike reaching 3000 subscribers on her YouTube channel. If you’re not familiar with Maaike’s work be sure to check out both her blog and her YouTube. She’s a very talented designer, and I’m happy to be able to call her one of my crafty friends. The theme for the hop is friendship, and there are prizes to be won along the way so be sure to head over to YouTube to join in with us.

I decided to set myself an extra challenge for my card and try to complete it in under 15 minutes. I planned out what I wanted to make ahead of time, then set my timer and started creating.

First I took a snippet of watercolour paper which I’d previously created using the cling wrap technique. I ran it through my Big Shot with the Tim Holtz Dot Matrix Texture Fade. I actually put my paper in the wrong way do it debossed rather than embossing, but I decided to just go with it. I then used a pair of square dies to die cut a frame from the embossed card and set it to one side.

Next I did my stamping. I placed the card base and my sentiment strip into my MISTI, lined up the sentiment and egg carton stamps, and stamped with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I then stamped the chicks and egg into my carton. If I was not trying to make a very quick card I would have masked off the images and then stamped another row of eggs or chicks behind the first.

With my stamping completed I started on the colouring. I used Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour the images. I went with yellow for the chicks, a soft creamy brown for the egg, and grey shading for the white egg carton. I also bought in a touch of pink and green for the flower.

Finally I just had to assemble the card. I used foam tape to pop up the frame, and a combination of foam tape and double-sided tape for the sentiment strip. My original plan had been to add a few adhesive-backed gems to finish off the card, but after adhering everything in place I was almost at my time limit so I decided to skip them. I finished my card just a couple of seconds before the 15 minute mark.

I really enjoyed making this card. It was a fun challenge to create the card within 15 minutes, and it forced me to plan a bit more than I might ordinarily. Usually when I create I might have a rough idea in mind, but I’ll still wing it and let the card take me where it will. With this card I spent several minutes laying out the stamps and dies as I worked out my idea for the card. The planning definitely helped to speed up the making process!

Don’t forget that this is part of Maaike’s 3000 subscriber hop. Be sure to head over to YouTube and leave a comment there to be eligible for the giveaway prizes as well as to find the link to the next stop. Good luck!

Love,

Lady Joyful

  1. Love your card, Joyful!!! Great coloring on the carton and chicks! I’d never heard of the cling wrap technique, will have to try it. It gave a nice look to your embossed panel (which reminds me of egg cartons as well). Thank your for joining and at Try Stampin’ on Tuesday, and sharing your creative talents with us! -Donna

  2. Awww, that’s so sweet! Perfect choice of embossing folder for the image and I love how it doesn’t compromise the empty white space on your card. Thanks so much for playing at AAA Cards, hope to see you joining in with future challenges too.
