Chunky Monkey Crafts | Stripey Shaker | Watercolour Focal Point

Today I’m sharing another card for my snarky series, inspired by a stamp set from Chunky Monkey Crafts, who I am designing for. As with the other cards in this series I kept the design clean and simple. This time I decided to create a watercoloured focal point and add my sentiments alongside it.

I started by cutting a panel of watercolor paper to slightly larger than I thought I would need. I then used my Gansai Tambi watercolour paints to make stripes of red, yellow and blue. I worked one colour at a time, drying in between to ensure they wouldn’t bleed together.

Initially I had planned to cut an oval from the watercolour paper, but instead I decided to make a shaker card. I cut a panel of white cardstock and die cut an oval from the centre of it using a Lawn Fawn oval die. I added acetate behind the die cut window, then used foam tape to create my shaker well. I added iridescent sequins, from the Love From Lizi Rainbow Wishes mix, into the shaker well and backed it with the fully dried, watercolour panel. I then adhered the completed shaker panel to my card base.

After picking out the sentiments I wanted to use from the Narky Sentiments 2 stamp set I stamped them on two strips of white card stock with Altenew Ruby Red ink. I trimmed the strips down and adhered them onto my card with double-sided tape. Finally I added some embellishment with Strawberry Coulis, Limoncello and Sea Breeze Nuvo Drops.

It wasn’t my intention, but given how close it is to Easter I like how much this ended up looking like an Easter egg! It’s kind of fun, isn’t it? I had originally planned to have my sentiments white heat embossed on black but (as you may already know if you follow me on Instagram) my heat gun gave up partway through this project, when I’d been using it for drying, so I switched to just stamping my sentiments instead. Luckily my husband was able to fix the heat gun (all he did was take it apart and put it back together, and suddenly it worked!) so I should be able to use it for future projects, but I’ve got my eye on a new one (I’m thinking this) in case it does decide to give up for good.

Don’t forget that Chunky Monkey Crafts is closing down once all the stock is cleared, so if you’ve been enjoying the projects I’ve made with this stamp set and would like one for your own, be sure to grab it soon before they’re all gone! Use the discount code below to save on your order.
