I am very happy to be participating in a video hop today in collaboration with a group of crafty friends. The theme for the hop is hedgehogs, as we are sponsored by Hedgehog Hollow, and there are prizes to be won so be sure to head over to YouTube to join in with us.
For my card I started by printing my digi stamp, which is from Oddball Art, directly onto my card base. This digi is one of the freebies offered to newsletter subscribers. I printed the same stamp, ensuring the size.was the same, onto a piece of scrap paper. I then fussy cut the scrap paper version, and applied Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue to the back, to create masks. Once my masks where ready I placed them over the images on the card base. I also cut a piece of repositionable tape to mask the ground area of my image.
With everything masked I started my ink blending. I used Altenew Forest Glades ink and first blended it directly around my focal point, fading out to white. I then placed the STAMPlorations’ Leaf Prints stencil over top and blended again to create a darker green layer with the leaves. Finally I swapped to the Marching Leaves stencil from Catherine Pooler Designs and again ink blended over. This added layers and depth to my ink blending.
I removed all my masks and began colouring my images using Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I used a touch of ivory to add shadow areas to the skull. I then used a variety of Earth Browns to colour the spike area of the hedgehog. For the rest of the hedgehog I used the lighter Earth Browns along with some Caramel, and finished off with a touch of Blush on the cheeks, inner ears and heart. I used a light grey, blended out with my blender pen, to add some grounding shadow below the images and also to add some dimension to the speech bubble.
When I first completed the stenciled portion of this card I was worried that I’d over done it and that it was too busy. However after removing the masks and finishing the rest of the card I think it does work well enough. I probably should have layered the stencils in the opposite order though, as having the larger leaves in the foreground would be more logical. With that said though, it was meant to be somewhat abstract so it probably doesn’t matter too much.
Don’t forget that this is part of the Hedgehog Hollow Hop. Be sure to head over to YouTube and follow the instructions in the description box to be eligible for the giveaway prizes, as well as to find the link to the next stop. Good luck!
