Blank Page Muse | New Release Hop – Day 2 | Floral Blooms

We’re having another blog hop over on the Blank Page Muse blog showcasing the newest designs. This is day two of the hop. You can find day one here and be sure to check back tomorrow for day three, which is the final day of the hop. Join in with the hop and leave comments along the way to have a chance at winning some of the new stamps!

For my card I used the beautiful Floral Blooms stamp by Shaloo Webster. I stamped both the floral image and the sentiment from the set with MFT Black Licorice Ink onto a snippet of watercolour paper which I’d previously used for picking up left over ink after another project. This meant that the panel already had some soft blue smooshing in the background. I then used my watercolour pencils to add colour to the image. I added a soft layer first and spritzed it with water to let the colours run. I then let it dry before repeating the process, using slightly less water so it wouldn’t run as much. Once I was happy with the movement of the colour (which I still kept very soft for the background) I coloured the flowers a final time, with more intense colours. I then spritzed it just a little to help the colours pop but not have them running.

Having finished all the colouring and with the panel fully dry I worked on assembling my card. I decided to use a black card base to tie in the black outline of the image. I added some definition between the card base and the focal panel by adding a matting layer of vellum, for a soft look.

This is a simple but pretty card, and I had fun making it. I think I could probably have even gone for a more intense background as I don’t think it’s obvious that I had coloured it as I did. But I do like the softness of it. It’s so easy to create pretty cards with this beautiful stamp! Make sure you check out the BPM blog to see what the other team members have made with this stamp set, as well as a second stamp set by Shaloo Webster. There’s some great inspiration, and don’t forget that by leaving comments you could win some of the stamps!

Love,
