The Little Paper Tree | Using Solid Accent Stamps | Video

I was planning something a bit more involved for this week’s project for The Little Paper Tree. It will have to wait for another time though as I just didn’t have enough time to work on it! I’m busily trying to get through projects before leaving to England (then Scotland, then England again) ready for my younger brother’s wedding this weekend! So time is definitely of the essence. As such I thought I would try to make a quick card. It ended up taking longer than I’d thought as my ideas changed as I went along, but I had fun with it anyway!

I started by stamping one of the bears from Heffy Doodle’s Unbearable Without You onto a snippet of Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink.

I thought it would be fun to try adding colour with stamping rather than alcohol markers, as a way of speeding up the colouring process. I took three different solid strip stamps from the Heffy Doodle Interactively Yours stamp set and alternated stamping with Altenew’s Paper Bag, Hero Arts’ Caramel, and Tea Dye Distress ink. This gave the bear a fun striped appearance. I then fussy cut him out.

I decided I wanted to add a little dimension to the bear so I did grab a brown grey Spectrum Noir Illustrator marker and use that to add some shadows. I also added highlights to the nose and ears with a white gel pen.

Next I worked on the background for my card. I decided to use the solid circle stamp from Interactively Yours, and with the help of my Gina K Wreath Builder I made a fun swirly design. I used Lagoon, Volcano Lake and Mountain Mist to create the ombre stamping.

I used Versafine Onyx Black ink to add a sentiment from Unbearable Without You, then finished up the card by popping the bear up on foam tape.

This card was definitely a bit of an experiment. I had fun with it and it was great to see how it turned out. I don’t love the result, but I’m happy enough with it. I think it would be fun to play with it more in future. Maybe I should make a rainbow striped bear! I’m pretty happy with the background I created too, despite some of the dots misaligning when I didn’t quite get my card base lined up properly. That’s why I usually try to double check before stamping!

Love,

Lady Joyful
