I’ve been so busy lately – I’m trying to get ahead on all my projects so that I don’t have to rush over them. I particularly need to do so as I’ll be going to a wedding this weekend and need to make sure everything that has to go live then is ready. I still wanted to work with the Simon Says Stamp May card kit though, as it had finally got to me. I had a couple of ideas for videos with the kit so I thought I’d put it together as quickly as I could. Well, quickly was my intention. But my first three cards took me a whole day, so that didn’t exactly go to plan! I got there eventually though, even if I did change to just doing five cards rather than ten.
Card 1 – Patterned Paper Florals
For my first card I stamped several of the images from the Delicate Flowers stamp set onto the pink and green patterned papers from the kit. I then fussy cut them out, leaving a slight border around the images. Usually I fussy cut up to the lines but due to the narrow stems on the leaves having a border worked better. I played around working out how I wanted to arrange the florals on my card base, then adhered them into place with the largest flower popped up on foam and the rest flat to the card base. I then stamped and white heat embossed a sentiment from the stamp set onto a snippet of black card, trimmed it down and added it to the card base tucked under the largest flower.

Card 2 – Pearl Watercolor
I decided to do some simple watercoloring for my second card. I stamped a sentiment, and roughly masked it off so that I could add the floral images beside it. I then used Gansai Tambi Pearl Colours in pink and green. I added the color roughly onto the flowers and spritzed with water so that it would spread and create a soft background. Once that dried I painted the flowers and leaves, as well as the open portions of the sentiment. I trimmed the panel down to be slightly smaller than my card base and rounded the corners with my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper. I also rounded the corners of my pink card base before attaching the focal panel into place.

Card 3 – Background Pattern
I used another pink card base for my third card, with the large flower images from the stamp set. I created a full background pattern by stamping and masking the flowers across the whole card base using Altenew Coral Berry ink. I then used a white Caran d’Ache pencil to begin coloring the images, adding the highlights to the flowers. I quickly decided to also use a pink pencil to add depth to the shadow areas. Coloring the image took a very long time but I think the result was worth it. Once it was all completely colored I added a subtle frame with Love From Lizi pink glitter pinstripe peel-offs. I then positioned and stamped a sentiment from the stamp set with Ruby Red ink, which is a step darker than the Coral Berry. I used the same pink pencil to fill in the open areas of the sentiment to help it stand out better against the busy background.

Card 4 – Embossed Pieced Panels
Given the amount of time I’d already spent on the cards I decided to do something quicker for the fourth. I started by arranging most of the flower and leaf images onto a piece of white card that I’d cut to be just smaller than my card base. I stamped and heat embossed with Simon Says Stamp’s Steel Navy embossing powder. I then used my paper trimmer to cut the panel into segments, with 1/8″ cut out from in between each segment. I made sure to keep all the pieces so that I could easily tell which piece should go where and with what orientation. I then adhered them to a blue card base with Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue. As a final touch I stamped and heat embossed one of the small sentiments from the set, cut it out with a Kat Scrappiness stitched banner die, and adhered it onto the card.

Card 5 – CAS Coloring
I started my fifth and final card by stamping the largest flower from the set, along with a sentiment, onto my card base. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink as it’s alcohol marker friendly. I then used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to color in the image. I chose Antique Pinks for the flower, with a red for the shadow areas and a paler pink for my highlight. I then went with yellow greens for coloring the flat leaves, with a blue for the shadows. I went slightly brighter for the other leaves using a more turquoise blue for the shadows rather than a true blue, along with citrus greens. Once I was happy with the coloring I finished off with the addition of some Nuvo Drops in Bottle Green.

……….
I had a lot of fun making these cards. I always enjoy seeing the different looks you can get from one stamp set. I would have liked to make more for a full ten cards but I ran out of time. If I manage to find time for it I will do five more cards using the kit, but with the alcohol pearls as the inspiration. Is that something you’d be interested in seeing? It all depends on how much time I have though – it may be that I just have to move onto the next kit. We shall see!
Love,

Love the wide variety of cards and really liked the segmented card as a quick idea but wow the colouring is beautiful it’s no wonder it took you a day. I love to colour images for cards but it does take a very long time, especially as I prefer crayons. Love seeing your wonderful designs
