TMR 113 | Cupcake Bookmark | Cooking and Baking

Our new challenge at The Male Room is perfect for making something for the man (or boy) in your life who loves to cook or bake, or even just to eat! Our theme is Cooking & Baking, and we look forward to seeing what yummy things you come up with.

I decided to do something a bit different for my project. I almost exclusively create cards, but I thought it would be fun to make a book ark to accompany a cookbook that I am giving as a gift. I started by trimming down a snippet of white card to the size I wanted, which resulted in an oversized bookmark which comfortably fit the book in question.

Next I took the Sketched: Cupcake stamp from STAMPlorations (now retired, I believe) and stamped it several times onto my bookmark, letting them hang off the edges of the panel. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink, as it’s alcohol marker friendly.

I then coloured the image in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I used the cover of the recipe book as inspiration to help me choose the colours for the cupcake wrappers. I also decided to colour the cupcakes themselves as a variety of flavours. For the icing I added a swirl of colour through each flavour of icing – red through the brown like chocolate with strawberry swirl, yellow with darker brown like banana and toffee, and

Once I’d finished all my colouring I used my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper to round the corners of the bookmark, and hole punch to make a hole in the top of the bookmark. I threaded some twine through the hole and the bookmark was complete.

I kind of went back and forth a bit about whether or not I like the swirls in the icing of the cupcakes. In the end I decided I do – it has a kind of artsy look to it! I’m pretty pleased overall with how the bookmark turned out, and it does go well with the book. Hopefully the recipient likes it! If this inspired you, we hope to see you linking up with us at The Male Room.
