Chunky Monkey Crafts | Rainbow Swirls | Trapped Ink Blending

Today I’m sharing another card for my snarky series, inspired by a stamp set from Chunky Monkey Crafts, who I am designing for. As with the other cards in this series I kept the design clean, though there’s much less white space on this than some of the previous ones have had! I was aiming for a summery looking focal point for this design.

I started by doing some quick ink blending. I used Festive Berries, Mermaid Lagoon and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxides, and let them overlap in place to get purple, orange and green too. I tried to create a random pattern with the blending. Once I was happy with it I made sure the ink was fully dry before proceeding to the next step.

Using Love From Lizi Rainbow Wishes embossing powder I heat embossed the A Bright Night stamp from Picket Fence Studios. I had the stamp in my MISTI so I could restamp it, but I think there was an air bubble trapped behind the stamp as I had some issue with the stamping. I restamped and heat embossed with clear powder to give a smoother surface over the sparkly one.

Next I ink blended over the heat embossing to make it really stand out. I initially used Catherine Pooler Twilight ink but decided to switch to Altenew Jet Black for a darker look. I then wiped any excess ink away from the heat embossing.

I used a die from Kat Scrappiness’s Crafter’s Essentials I to cut a panel from the embossed background. I then used another of the dies to cut a sentiment strip onto which I stamped a sentiment from Narky Sentiments 2 using the Twilight ink. I used a piece of washi tape to hold the two die cut pieces together, then adhered them to my card base with double sided tape, completing my card.

The swirly sparkly background didn’t turn out exactly how I had imagined it when I had the idea for this card, but I think it is really fun despite that. The background stamp was one I only very recently picked up, and I really wanted to have a play with it. I hadn’t originally decided what sentiment I would use with the card, but once it came to it I realised I had to use this one, because of the fairy dust!
