Summer Cards | Love From Lizi Card Kit July 2019 | 10 Cards 1 Kit | Video

The Love From Lizi July card kit is so full of summery goodness. You may have already seen how I combined the tassels that came in the kit with some of the stamps and a touch of ink blending. They proved very popular! If you missed them you can find the blog post here and the video here. I still had plenty of kit left to use though so I got crafting and came up with these ten card ideas.

Card 1 – Watermelon Aloha

For my first card I started by trimming a panel of the watermelon patterned paper and backed it with double sided tape. I then positioned the aloha die slightly overlapping the top of the panel and cut it out, being sure to keep all the pieces. I then covered a snippet of card with the gold washi tape from the Summer Fruits washi tape collection and cut that out with the same aloha die.

I adhered the watermelon panel onto my cardbase, then inlaid the golden aloha, before inlaying the negative pieces from die cutting the watermelon panel. I finished the card with a strip each of the golden washi and the purple foil washi along with one of the ephemera girls.

Card 2 – Leafy Aloha

I bought in the Totally Tropical stencil from a previous kit for my second card. I used Mowed Lawn Distress ink to create a leafy background. I’d intended to use the Monstera leaf ephemera with the stenciled background but I felt the colours didn’t match well enough. Instead I die cut the aloha die from a panel covered in the purple washi, added it to the card base, and finished off with two strips of the same washi tape.

Card 3 – Summer Flower Pair

My third design ended up being two cards. I wanted to use the chevron/floral patterned paper, and the pattern that is a reverse of it. I laid them together to cut down the panels so that I could ensure they would fit together probably with a continuous pattern. I realised this left me spare panels (the opposite piece of each of the panels I needed for my initial card) so I decided to make a second card that would be the opposite.

I adhered the patterned paper panels to their cardbases and added the Mauve Moondust peel-offs all around the edges as well as along the join between the two panels. I cut banners from two different patterned papers, matted them on card that matches the card bases and adhered them into place. I then added one of the Summer Fruits epoxy sticker sentiments to each card and finished off with some of the Summer Fruits enamel dots.

Card 4 – Hello Monstera

I decided to have another go at trying to use the Monstera leaf from the Summer Fruits ephemera. Taking the Totally Tropical stamp set (which came in the same kit as the stencil I used on card 2 – they can be purchased as a bundle) I stamped a pattern with Forest Glades and Purple Wine Altenew inks. I added a double strip of the golden washi tape and popped up the largest Monstera ephemera over it. I used Versafine Onyx Black ink to add a sentiment using the Snap Happy stamp set (from the May kit) and finished off with a few golden gems I had left from last month’s kit.

Card 5 – Summer Girls

I went back to the patterned papers for my fifth design. I cut a panel of the striped and floral design paper to be just smaller than my card base. I also cut a strip of striped patterned paper and popped it up across the background panel. I then popped up three of the girl ephemera pieces twice (so they are raised above the level of the strip), before finishing the card with one of the epoxy sentiment stickers.

Card 6 – Summer Surf

I cut a background panel from the pearlised fruity patterned paper and adhered it to a deep pink card base. I used the same deep pink card to create a sentiment strip and stamped my sentiment from the Summer Fruits stamp set with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I used the Mauve Moondust peel-offs to edge the background panel and to create a frame on my sentiment panel. The surf board ephemera for nicely next to my sentiment and I used Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue to adhere it onto the panel before attaching the panel to my card base with double sided tape.

Card 7 – Summer Sun

For my seventh card I started with a white card base and masked off half an inch on each edge. I created an ombre ink blended background using Distress Oxides. I started with Festive Berries at the bottom, then Wild Honey in the middle and Squeezed Lemonade at the top. Once I was happy with the blend I removed my masks and stamped a sentiment from the Summer Fruits stamp set with my Versafine Onyx Black ink.

I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink to stamp one of the girls from the same stamp set. I then coloured her with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I used LV1, FS9, FS7, EB1 and EB2 for her skin. For her hair I went with GB7, BO3, GB4, GY3, GY1, and finished off by glazing with CT1. Her swimsuit was coloured with TB1, TB2 and TB3. I wasn’t happy with the depth of the colours so I went back over using TB4 as my darkest and was much happier with that. If I were to do it again I would use the TB4 as my darkest in the first ace and skip using the TB3. I also used the lightest of the blues to add some eyeshadow to the girl. Finally I used white gel pens to add detail to the swimsuit as well as a glitter gel pen to add detail to her hair. I then die cut her out with the coordinating die and used Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue to adhere her into place on the card.

Card 8 – Camper Scene

I did some more ink blending for my eighth card. I first masked off the lower portion of my card with a mask cut to be a slope. I used the MFT Mini Cloud Edges stencil with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide to create my sky. I then switched my mask and used Tea Dye Distress Ink to blend the sandy ground. I then smooshed the Tea Dye onto an acrylic block, added a little water, and used a small paintbrush to add splatters to the sand. Placing the blended card base in my MISTI I stamped a sentiment from the Summer Fruits stamp set with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I used Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue to adhere the caravan ephemera onto my background scene and finished off by drawing in a trio of birds in the sky.

Card 9 – Floral Wreath

I created a wreath with the Summer Fruit ephemera from the kit for my ninth card. I first used a Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval die to cut a piece of the gold striped acetate. I wasn’t able to get it to die cut through (even when using a metal shim) so once I had the impression of the die in the acetate I used my scissors to follow the line and cut the oval out. I then used Glossy Accents to adhere the flower and leaf elements around the edge of the oval. I used a foam square to layer up a flower in the focal arrangement. I then put foam squares all on the back of the wreath and popped it up on my card base. I finished off the card with the addition of one of the ephemera girls, as well as one of the epoxy sticker sentiments.

Card 10 – Sweet Thanks

For my final card I created a background panel with one of the patterned papers which I cut to be just smaller than my card base. I adhered it into place and edged it with clear glitter peel-offs. I also used Versafine Onyx Black ink to stamp a sentiment from the Summer Fruits stamp set onto the card base. I finished off the simple card by adding a trio of ice lolly ephemera popped up on foam squares. I added interest to the ice lollies with my Wink of Stella glitter brush pen and also with a coating of Glossy Accents.

……….

I’d love to know which if the ten (eleven, really!) cards is your favourite. Or perhaps the cards I made previously with the tassels are your favourite that I’ve made with the kit. I did have a lot of fun with these designs and I’m really happy with how they turned out. (Most of them, anyway. I’m looking at you, number 9…) Don’t forget that if you’re not already subscribed to Lizi’s lots you can find all the information on them here and subscribe if you want. The August kit has already been revealed and sold out incredibly quickly, so subscribing is well worth it if you want to be sure to get a kit!
