We’re getting glittery for our new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge. You can chose to add glitter to your project in any way, as long as it is there! Link up your project with us for a chance to win a prize of a $20 gift code from our sponsor DRS Designs.
I started with the Lazy Leopard stamp from our sponsor. I was sent it as a digi version specifically for using on this project. I sized the image to fit the card, then printed it directly onto my card base. I also printed it again, without changing the size, onto a piece of regular printer paper. I fussy cut out the printer paper version and applied Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue onto it to create a mask.
Once I had my mask in place on my card base I also bought in the Geo Spheres Stencil from Funky Fossil Designs and positioned the open circle over my image. I then used my stencil brushes to ink blend into the circle. I used Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide across the whole circle to create a base layer, then added more layers to create a gradient with Festive Berries at the top and Squeezed Lemonade at the bottom.
With the ink blending complete I needed to add my glitter. Leaving the stencil and mask in place I used a sponge to pounce Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue across the ink blending to get a thin but even layer. I then added Unicorn Dust glitter on top. I pressed it down well, tipped away the excess, then burnished the remaining glitter into the adhesive, and used a brush to brush away any loose glitter. I repeated burnishing and brushing a few times to try to ensure the glitter was stuck down as well as possible.
At this stage I removed the mask from my image. The pounced on glue had soaked through the paper slightly and tore the surface of the card a little as I removed the mask. I decided to continue with the process and try to fix it later. I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers to colour in the image. I used earth browns for the trunk and branches of the tree, golden browns for the leopard, and dark greens for the leaves.
The area where the card base had torn was missing some of the spots from the leopard. I took a black pencil and sketched in some spots to disguise the torn area.
For my sentiment I pulled in the Simon Says Stamp Wild Cuddly Critters stamp set. I positioned the stamp to the lower right corner of the card base and stamped it with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I then used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers again to fill in the open spaces of the sentiment, mimicking the gradient of my sparkly circle. I finished off by adding several layers of Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen over the letters, to bring in some more glitter.
I have mixed feelings about this card. I had fun making it but I feel like the glitter maybe got a bit overwhelming. It would have been nice to have a more subtle glitter to go over the ink blending so that the colours shine through more. And of course as always happens when using glitter, I’m now finding flakes of it everywhere!
