CIC 477 | Fruity Frap | Food and Drink | STAMPlorations

Our new theme at the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge is sure to get your mouth watering. The theme is food and drink, and we’re sponsored by STAMPlorations who are offering a $20 gift certificate to our randomly chosen winner.

I spent much longer on this card than I actually needed to because my original idea had a completely different background. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen that in my Stories. Once I had finished the other background though, I didn’t want to cover it at all, which meant I couldn’t use my focal image. So instead I decided to use that background for a standalone card (which I have since shared here) and use the focal image I had planned with a different background.

For the focal image I used one of the Fruity Frap digi stamps. I printed it onto some Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock, then coloured it in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I of course used oranges to colour the orange. I went with citrus greens for the leaves, then creamy shades for the drink. I used the orange again to add the look of orange syrup to the top of the cream. I used a very pale blue green to add some colour to the straw and the cup. The last colour I used was a touch of grey to add dimension to the label. Having completed all the colouring I fussy cut the image out and set it to one side.

For my background I took a piece of watercolour paper and did some ink smooshing. I first used Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink as a base layer, dried that with my heat gun, and added a couple of more layers using Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink. I again dried it and once I was happy with the coverage I trimmed the panel down to be a little smaller than my card base.

My panel was pretty warped from the water and heat so I covered the back entirely with double-sided tape so that I could adhere it nice and flat. I then noticed that one of my corners was slightly ripped. I didn’t want to trim the panel down more than I already had, so instead I used my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper to round the corners on my watercolour panel, which got rid of the broken corner. I considered rounding my card base too but, after consulting with my husband, decided against it.

I adhered the background panel to my card base, then used Tombow Mono Multi Glue to adhere the fussy cut image into place. As a final touch I used Versafine Onyx Black ink to stamp a sentiment, which is from the Just Because stamp set.

Whilst this card ended up really differently from my original plan I’m really happy with the end result. I think the splash of colour in the background works really well with the design. I also really like the texture I managed to get on the orange. I enjoy seeing my progress as I improve my colouring skills. Don’t forget that this is my project for the new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge.
