CIC 481 | Beary Much | Fall | Newton’s Nook

Now that I’m trying to get back to regular crafting I am of course trying to get back on track with my DT commitments too! This morning a new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge started. I’m a few hours late adding my contribution, but better late than never. The theme for this challenge is Fall (or Autumn), and we are sponsored by Newton’s Nook Designs who are offering a $25 gift code to our randomly chosen winner!

I started my card by stamping an image from Newton Nook’s Papa Bear stamp set towards the corner of my card base, using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I then masked the image off.

Next I worked on my ink blending, which using Catherine Pooler inks. I started with Limoncello as a base, working from the corner and fading out to white. I then laid over the first stencil from the Newton’s Nook Plaid Stencil Set, and blended with Tutti Frutti ink. I decided to use Versafine Onyx Black for the second layer of the stencil. After removing the stencils I felt that the plaid was a bit brighter than I was hoping, so I went over it again with Tiki Torch which (along with my blending brush still having some residue black ink) helped to mute the colour and help it feel more Autumnal.

Having completed the background I removed the mask and coloured the bears with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers. I used browns for both bears, but chose earth browns for the adult bear and golden browns for the cub. I also used a little grey to create a simple shadow below the image to ground it. I finished off the images with some white gel pen highlights.

I completed my card by adding a sentiment to the card base, which I stamped with the Versafine Onyx Black ink.

I had fun creating the ink blended background for this card, and I think the colours turned out nicely. It was a little bit of a challenge trying to come up with an Autumn design as I don’t have a lot of Newton’s Nook products and of course I wanted to try to feature our sponsor if I could. I do love their products and hope to get my hands on some more!
