Have you played along with the current Cupcake Inspiration Challenge yet? The theme for this challenge is Fall (or Autumn), and we are sponsored by Newton’s Nook Designs who are offering a $25 gift code to our randomly chosen winner! The challenge started last week, and you can see the first card I made for it here.
I decided I wanted to use another of the stamps from Newton Nook’s Papa Bear stamp set – the one with the adult bear laying down and holding the cub in the air. I thought I would make it Autumnal by having them playing in a pile of leaves. I discovered that one of the other Newton’s Nook sets I have (I don’t have many, yet!) did have a tiny leaf stamp, so I used the little leaf from Aloha Newton and created a leaf pile with lots of masking and stamping, along with three leaves floating through the air. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink to stamp all the leaves, as well as to stamp my bears once the leaves were finished.
I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers to colour in the image. I started with the leaves, choosing five shades and trying to distribute them evenly. I coloured the leaves with flat colour then went back with a grey to easily add some simple shading to them. I then moved on to colouring the bears, with earth browns and golden browns for the big bear, and red browns for the little bear. I used a light blue to add a simple sky background, and finished the colouring with some white gel pen detail to their eyes and noses.
Next I cut out the image panel with the stitched circle die from Kat Scrappiness’ Crafters Essentials I Dies. I then adhered the panel onto a piece of brown shimmery card stock from my stash and cut around it with my scissors to create a narrow mat. I adhered the circle panel to a light tan card base and finished the card by stamping a sentiment from Right At Home’s Bunny Hugs using Versafine Onyx Black Ink.
It was a little bit of a challenge trying to work out how to use the stamps sets I had available to me to create an Autumn card, but I’m really pleased with the end result! It took quite a while to create the image panel because of all the stamping and masking required for the leaf pile, but the end result definitely seems to be worth it!
