TMR 129 | Bear Hugs | <3 You!

I’m running a bit behind again but… Here is my DT card for the new challenge over at The Male Room! We’re getting in the mood for Valentine’s with this love-themed challenge, though your project doesn’t have to specifically be for Valentine’s. Anything involving love  is perfect for linking up with us in our Heart You challenge, as long it’s suitable for giving to a man or boy!

I started with a light blue card base, onto which I repeatedly stamped the heart from Reverse Confetti’s Cute As A Button with embossing ink before heat embossing with Simon Says Stamp’s Steel Navy embossing powder. I then cut down a large snippet of white card to cover most of the card front, allowing a reveal of the embossed pattern at the bottom, with an angled edge. I heat embossed an offcut snippet of the white panel with Love From Lizi Tutu Pink embossing powder, then adhered the pink strip behind the white panel.

Next I worked on my critter focal point. Onto another snippet of the white card I stamped the bear from Paper Smooches’ Chubby Chums Pals using Catherine Pooler Midnight ink. I then quickly coloured it in with my  Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I decided to colour it with pale browns. After completing the colouring I fussy cut the bear out and went around the cut edges with a black, brush tip, water-based marker to hide the white core of the paper.

I worked out where I wanted to position the bear on my card, then used that as a guideline to stamp the sentiment, which comes from the same stamp set. I then adhered the white panel into place on my card base with double sided tape, and finished off by gluing the bear into place.

It’s rare for me to go into creating a card with a fully formed plan, but that’s what happened with this one. And it turned out exactly as I had in mind! I really love how the heat embossed heart pattern peeks out from below the panel, adding interest whilst still being a clean and simple design. I also really like the touch of pink – it’s not the most likely colour to be included on a masculine card but I think it works really well for this love-themed design. If this inspires you I hope you’ll head over to The Male Room to join in with our challenge!
