CIC 488 | Floral Birthday Heart | Pink, Pale Blue, Mint

The new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge went live this morning! This time around it is a colour challenge inspired by some floral cupcakes. The colours are pink, pale blue and mint, which is a perfect combination for Spring! For my take on the challenge I made a pretty birthday card.

I started by cutting the Hero Arts Floral Heart Stamp and Cut (which I believe is now retired) from a snippet of white card. I then used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour the details of the die cut. I kept the colouring very simple, with just one colour per element. I used a light pink for the flowers with a darker pink for the centres, and a light green for the leaves. The green is not as minty as I would have wanted, but I didn’t have anything closer! I tied in the blue by colouring the negative pieces of the heart. I then inlaid them all back into place, with double-sided tape on the back of the heart to hold everything together.

Initially I stamped one of the sentiments that came with the heart die onto the centre, but then remembered I wanted this to be a birthday card! So I cut another strip to lay over the top and stamped that with a birthday sentiment from my stash. I then edged the sentiment panel with Ice Blue Pinstripe Mirror Peel-Offs from Love From Lizi before adhering it into place on the heart. I added the peel-offs onto my card base, too, spaced the same as on the heart, so that I could then adhere the heart into place and give the impression that the lines of the peel-offs are continuous.

For being a fairly simple design this card took a fair while to create! Most of that time was doing the in-lay technique. I hadn’t originally planned to do that, but luckily I’d kept all the pieces anyway so I didn’t have to re-cut it. Still, as I hadn’t kept the pieces in order it took a little while to work out what went where, especially with the really tiny pieces! I think the final result was worth it though, despite how fiddly it got. I hope you think so, too! If you’re inspired by this colour palette please do come and join in with our challenge here – you can find more inspiration there from the rest of the team, too, as well as directly on their own blogs via the links below.
