I timed my return to card making pretty well – I’m just in time for the Coffee Lovers Hop! I always enjoy playing along with this hop. It’s always such a fun time, and Amy is a gem for all the work she puts in to organising it.
I decided to go monochromatic for my card. Originally I was thinking red but then I remembered I don’t have the best selection of markers for red… Instead I went with yellows.
The first thing I did was stamp the outline image from Birch Press Design‘s Delicate Peony (which may have been retired, as I couldn’t find it on their page) onto a snippet of white card. I used Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink for the stamping so that I could do some no-line colouring. I then worked one petal at a time to color with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers.
After completing the colouring I used an MFT coffee cup die to cut it out. The dies I have are no longer available, but MFT has these ones as an alternative. I scribbled on a spare piece of the white card with some of the markers I’d used and cut the lid from that coloured portion. I also used the sleeve die to cut a piece of vellum. Using a blending brush I added some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink lightly to either side of the cup, helping to give the impression of dimension. I then used Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to assemble the cup.
I chose a yellow card base, but added a wide snippet of white card to break up the brightness. I stamped a sentiment from Altenew’s Build-A-Flower: Sakura Blossom with Wild Honey Distress Oxide towards the bottom of the strip, and adhered the coffee cup above it. I finished the card with the addition of a trio of Limoncello Nuvo Drops.
Colouring the peony was definitely a challenge with all the layers of petals. I did have to lay the acetate from the stamp set (with the outline of the stamp) over my image a couple of times to check which petals were on top of which, but I got there in the end! I think the yellows work really nicely to make this bright and happy card.
I’m planning (and hoping!) to make a coffee card for every day of the hop this time around, so be sure to check back tomorrow for another! Plus if you like flowers, I have another card featuring a flower
going live in just over an hour which you can find here.
