Feeling Slothy | Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Today I’m sharing my fourth card for the  Coffee Lovers’ Blog Hop. This time is another one layer card – I seem to have done layered cards on odd days, and one layer on even days so far. Maybe I should keep doing that. Well, anyway. I went one layer and CAS for this cute card.

I began by stamping the adorable sloth from Kat Scrappiness’ Stewart The Sloth stamp set with  MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink directly onto my white card base. I also stamped it onto scrap paper which I fussy cut out and used to create a mask by adding  Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to the back. Once the glue has air dried it is tacky and repositionable. I pressed the mask against the back of my hand to remove any excess stickiness, then positioned it over the sloth on the card base. I also masked off a portion of the background with some masking tape.

Next I took Spun Sugar Distress Ink and used a Scrapbook.com stencil brush to lightly apply it across the left hand side of my card. Once I was happy with it I placed the Catherine Pooler Scattered Circles stencil over the top and blended through it again, this time with an ink blending tool for a slightly more intense coverage.

Having completed all the ink blending I removed the masks from the card and began colouring. I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers and chose antique pinks for the cup, and earth browns for the sloth. The sloth’s face is a paler shade, using light golden browns. I also used a very light ice grey to add colour to the steam and also a slight shadow below the sloth. Finally I used a white gel pen to add dots onto the coffee mug.

I returned the card base to my MISTI and restamped the image with Versafine Onyx Black ink, making the lines crisper. I used the same ink to add the sentiment, completing my card.

I really adore this cute little sloth stamp, and I think the pink polka dots just make it all the sweeter! Masking is a fun technique and can be very effective even on simple designs like this. And now I’m going to go and work on tomorrow’s card! Any requests?
