Christmas Craft Creations | Use A Die Cut | Joyful Baubles

We’re halfway through our May challenge at Christmas Craft Creations and it’s time for our reminder post. This challenge is all about using die cuts on your Christmas cards. We hope you’ll come and play along with us!

For my card I started by stamping a beautiful floral stamp that came in one of the Love From Lizi card kits this year. I heat embossed it onto a snippet of white card using Silver Dollar Embossing Powder, which is also from Love From Lizi.

Next I used some basic circle dies from my stash to cut three circles from the heat embossed piece. I didn’t actually have quite enough room to cut three whole circles, but as one of them would be mostly covered by the other two it didn’t matter too much that it was only a partial bauble.

With an ink blending brush I blended Catherine Pooler Twilight ink around the edges of my circles, concentrating on one side in particular, giving the impression of dimension to them.

I then used a die from the Holiday Wishes kit from Queen & Co (which is no longer available, but the same dies can be found in the Merry & Bright Ornament Kit II) to cut out three toppers for my baubles, from a snippet of silver mirror card. I used Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to adhere the toppers to each of the baubles

I searched through my ribbon stash for a suitable ribbon to thread my baubles, and eventually found one I liked. I threaded it through such that it was double layers, which I adhered together with double sided tape. Once I’d adhered the baubles to the card base, again with the Tombow Glue, I used more double sided tape to stick the ribbons to the card base.

For my sentiment I took another snippet of white and used Versafine Onyx Black ink to stamp a sentiment from a retired Pink & Main stamp set (you can see their other Christmas/Winter stamp sets here). I then backed it onto the same silver mirror card I’d used on the bauble toppers, to create a narrow mat, before adhering the sentiment strip into place with Liquid Glue.

When I originally came up with the idea for this card I had intended to add colour to the baubles, with the thought that it would end up being something similar to this card. Once I’d done the heat embossing though, I really liked how the silver and white looked together, so I decided to keep it simple and elegant. I think that was the right decision! Do you agree?

You can find more inspiration from the Christmas Craft Creatives in our reminder post and May challenge launch post. If you’d like to come along and like up with us, the challenge runs until June 9th at 6pm GMT. I hope to see you there!

Love,

Lady Joyful

  2. This is such a great technique to make baubles from a background stamp, I’d love to try this. I agree that the silver and white looks so elegant, bright colour not required! You’ve made a classically beautiful card. Thanks for joining in with the 52CCT this week.
