Today’s card for the Coffee Lovers’ Blog Hop is two cards! I picked up the Cool Beans digi set from super sponsor Angie Blom Digital Designs, which is on sale until the hop ends. Which is today, by the way, so you’ll have to move fast if you want it!
I started by making an arrangement with the images in a word document. Initially I was using the cup image that comes with the heart ‘steam’ above it but decided to swap to the other cup. I also pulled one of the sentiments into my arrangement. I fiddled around for a little while until I was happy with the sizing and positioning of all the elements, then printed it onto alcohol marker friendly card bases.
Working one card at a time I coloured in my images with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. As the coffee bean design is quite intricate I started on the first card by mapping in all my shadow areas with my lightest colour, almost like a practice run before committing to the darkest marker. Once I was comfortable with them I worked from darkest to lightest, as I usually do. The pens I used were EB7, EB4, EB2 and EB1. For the coffee within the cup I used just the EB7 and EB2.
I swapped from the Earth Browns to the Golden Browns for the heart on the cup and also for the saucer. For these I used a GB4, GB2 and then FS8 for the lightest shade. I did also use a tiny bit of GB7 to darken up the shadows. Finally I bought in my lightest Ice Grey, IG2, to add a shadow beneath the cup and the bean cluster.
Having finished the colouring I decided to finish them each off in a different way. For one of the cards I used my EB7 and a ruler to add three lines below the arrangement. For the second card I used gold washi tape in three strips. I created the two narrower strips by trimming the gold washi in half. I then used a glitter gel pen to add some shimmer to the heart and saucer on the second card to further tie in the glittery gold washi.
The biggest problem with these cards was definitely taking the photos. The gold washi really wanted to shine! Other than that issue I’m pretty pleased with these cards. Which of the two do you prefer? I do like how the gold looks, but I think I prefer the more monochromatic version.
If you missed any of my previous cards just follow the links to card one, two, three, four, five, six and seven! Or you can find all the coffee cards I’ve ever shared here.
Love,
Lady Joyful

Fabulous card! I love how you’ve managed to make the coffee beans realistic with your coloring. Initially, I thought that you had glued coffee beans onto your card. Thanks for joining us at Addicted to Stamps and More! Apologies for the late comment.
