Unicorn Coffee| Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

In last night’s blog post I mentioned that the Coffee Lovers’ Blog Hop ends ‘today’. Luckily with the magic of time-zones and posting in the morning rather than the evening I can get one more post in before the link up closes. And that’s what this card is! Husband is responsible for the name, as when I showed him a work-in-progress version of this card he asked why the unicorn coffee was spilling everywhere, so unicorn coffee it is!

I started by positioning the Art Splatters stencil from STAMPlorations onto a black card base, then dabbed Tombow Mono Multi Glue through it. I usually use a cheap make-up sponge for this technique but I could not find any of them… Instead I used a bunched up paper towel which worked pretty well, though I think it soaked up more of the glue than the sponges do.

After inking my card base splatters and letting the glue dry to its tacky state, which doesn’t take long as the dabbed layer is so thin, I pressed some Rainbow Shattered Glass Deco Foil over the top, and burnished it by rubbing over with my finger. I then carefully peeled the sheet back and, as I always do, got very excited about the successful foiling!

Next I moved onto my coffee cup which I made with my MFT coffee cup die. (The dies I have are no longer available, but MFT has these ones as an alternative.) I decided to go with grey card for the coffee cup, and cut the main part and the lid from the same snippet. I then used the stencil and foiling technique again to add foiled drips down the cup. I also coloured in the lid with a light grey alcohol marker just to differentiate it slightly.

Initially I wasn’t planning to add anything else, so I used the Tombow Mono Multi Glue to attach the lid to the cup, then popped the whole thing up on foam tape and adhered it to my card base. I wasn’t entirely happy with it though, and after some back and forth on ideas I decided to die cut the sleeve for the cup from vellum, and also add a white heart. Putting the heart on the vellum sleeve also gave me a way to hide the adhesive so that it wouldn’t show through the vellum.

And that is my last card for the hop! Unless I make, photograph and blog another one within the next hour which is highly unlikely. The idea for this one just kind of jumped into my head and I’m so pleased with how it turned out! I really like how the foiling looks and I think it’s a very fun design overall.
