Skull And Cross Buns | Shaped Superhero Card | Video

This pair of shaped cards were entirely inspired by the sentiment from Skull and Cross Buns’ Crafting Is My Superpower stamp set. I decided that if crafting is a superpower, why not make super hero inspired shaped cards! Female super hero outfits often seem to be ridiculously skimpy, so I played up to that with these designs.

I began by ink blending. I used Tea Dye Distress ink with the leopard print stencil for the first card, and Cracked Pistachio, Worn Lipstick and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxides with the mermaid stencil for an ombre design on my second card. I sprayed homemade shimmer spray on the mermaid card for added interest.

Next I created a template with some scrap paper, then used the template to help me with cutting out the card bases using my a scissors. Later I did some partial die cutting with circle dies to neaten some of the edges and also add stitching detail.

After cutting out both of my card bases I ink blended some shadowing under the bust of each outfit to give the look of some dimension.

When I was happy with how the outfits looked I stamped the sentiment onto them using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I then used a star die from the Kat Scrappiness Crafters Essentials I Dies to create a final embellishment for each card. I used blue glitter card for the mermaid scale design, and black glitter card for the leopard design.

I don’t often make shaped cards so I really enjoyed creating these, especially with the added challenge of working out the template and shape for them. They might not be the most accurate as outfits go, but it’s obvious what they are supposed to be, and I think that’s the main thing!
