CIC 495 | Friends Are Like Flowers | Friendship

I took a break from my design teams whilst I was unwell, but I am at last getting back to them, one by one. Today we have a new challenge starting at Cupcake Inspirations, and I think it is a very apt theme – Friendship. I think that friendship and acceptance of one another is very important, now and always.

When I was trying to decide what to do for this card I came across this image in my stash which I had coloured with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers some time ago and never used. It might have been coloured during one of the previous 30 Day Coloring Challenges. The image is a digi from Bugaboo and is called Best Friends. I fussy cut the image out using my Tim Holtz Mini Snips and set it to one side.

For my background I used the Mod Flowers stamp from Simon Says Stamp and clear heat embossed it onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock. I ink blended Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide across the panel, keeping the colour more concentrated around the edges and fading towards the centre. I then went in with a little Wild Honey Distress Oxide to further darken the edges of the panel. Once I was done with the ink blending I used a dry cloth to buff over the heat embossing and remove any excess ink.

I used one of the Kat Scrappiness Never Ending Rectangle Dies to cut my panel to be slightly smaller. I kept the offcut outer portion too, and adhered it as a frame on the inside of my card for some added interest. I then used Tombow Mono Liquid Multi Glue to adhere my panel to my card base.

For my sentiment I chose one from the Creative Expressions John Lockwood Lily of the Valley Elements stamp set and stamped it onto a snippet of white card using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I then mounted it onto a piece of blue card, the same colour as the card base. I used foam tape to pop up the sentiment and the focal image, completing the card.

I really like how this card turned out, though it’s a bit busier than I usually prefer. I thought that the background stamp was a good choice because of the flower on the girl’s dress, and the sentiment nicely ties in both the flowers and the friendship theme. I do hope my card inspires you to come and play along with us. You can find more inspiration from the team over on the challenge site, or directly at their blogs via the links below.

Love,
