It’s hop time again! The Collected Crafty Collabs hop is all about making use of supplies that we’ve squirreled away and perhaps don’t give as much love as we should. We’ll have two themes each month, and for July those are outdoors and patterned papers. I decided to use both on my project. If you’ve already been hopping and joined me from Yvette Olea, then welcome! And if I’m your first stop on the hop don’t worry, I’ll have information on how you can keep hopping later in this post.
I started my project by searching through my patterned paper stash for some to use. If you’re familiar with my makes you may have noticed that I don’t use patterned paper very often, but I still have quite a lot of it. I decided to use papers from a Summer themed pad that I bought some time ago from the supermarket chain Lidl – so not a particularly fancy brand of papers.
For creating my scene I wanted to use a variety of Lawn Fawn dies. I first cut a blue, star-patterned paper with the second largest of the large stitched oval stackables. I also used the same die to cut a two-tone, green striped paper.
I cut into the green ovals with the Flower Border die to create three hills. For one I snipped away the flowers, but I left the other two as they were. I used Mowed Lawn Distress ink to ink blend over the middle and back most hills to create some differentiation between them.
I then cut polka dot pieces in various colours from a cut-apart sheet and used them with the same flower die in order to create the petal portions of the flowers. I used my craft knife to snip the flower heads off of their stems and paper pieced them onto the green versions with a Nuvo Smooth Precision glue pen.
I found to white based patterned papers to use for the sheep and cloud elements of my card. The paper I used for the clouds has narrow rainbow stripes, and I intentionally cut them to be perpendicular to the stripes on the grass, so as to add extra interest from the scene. I used the medium sized and smallest dies from the Simple Puffy Cloud dies to cut the clouds.
The paper I used for the sheep is one with a cute heart pattern. I stamped the sheep from Critters On The Farm onto it with the MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I then used some grey Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers to add colour to the sheep’s face, legs and tail as well as to give some texture and dimension to the wool.
With all the elements ready I began assembling the design. I used Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to adhere all the pieces together. I used the MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink again to add a sentiment from Critters On The Farm onto the front of the scene, abd then used some craft foam to add dimension to the back of the panel and adhere it to my white card base.
As a final touch I used some Sweet Lilac and Blue Babe Nuvo Crystal Drops to fill out the centres of the daisy-like flowers.
Part way through making this card I really felt like it was too busy with all the patterns, and I just wasn’t happy with it… But after stepping away from it for a little while and having time to reset I actually felt much better about it, and I really rather like the finished card! What do you think of it?
I had wanted to make a second card for this hop, but unfortunately I ran out of time. But that’s okay, because you can keep hopping through to get lots more inspiration from the rest of the group.
Be sure to check out Virginia’s blog to keep hopping!
Love,
Lady Joyful

Charlotte, I love this card so much! I don’t think its too busy at all. And I love that you used old paper from the stash… from a grocery store no less!!! Using it up… little by little! LOL Isn’t it funny how sometimes just stepping away helps to reset your reaction to a project? Glad you hung with it because this card is adorable!!! 💗

Oh so adorable, Charlotte! Love how you used so many different patterns to create the scene but all came so well together! Lidl’s papers are not that bad after all, I bought one glittery/girlish pad for my daughter to use but had stolen few sheets from her 🙂

Thank you! Yes, the patterned papers from Lidl are not too bad 🙂 I quite like getting the big pads of coloured card they sometimes sell. It’s surprisingly good for making card bases!
