Mermazing Mondays | Synchronised Mermaids

It’s Monday which means it’s time for another Mernazing Monday project. After the fun of the Under The Sea hop (you can see my projects for that here, here and here) the organiser, Teresa Russell from Scrapping for Less, suggested continuing the fun through August with weekly mermaid themed projects. I thought that sounded like a fun idea! These projects will be shared using the hashtag #MermazingMonday and you’ll be able to find inspiration on YouTube, Instagram and blogs. You can find the first project I made for the series here.

I had synchronised swimming in mind when I sat down to create this card. I started with a 4″ panel of white card which I placed into the Gina K Wreath Builder in my MISTI. I then stamped and masked a wreath of mermaids from Lawn Fawn’s Mermaid For You with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

Once I had the whole wreath stamped I removed the masks and started to colour with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers. I went for purples for the tails and tops, and orange and yellow for their hair. I also used blues to colour the background.

I cut another panel of white card to lengthen my wreath panel so that it would be the appropriate dimensions for adding to my card base, then covered another snippet with some washi tape to cover the divide. I used the lightest of the blues I’d used on the background to colour the bottom panel so that the entire piece would appear continuous.

I chose a sentiment from Mermaid For You and stamped it onto the washi with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I forgot to account for the slick surface of the washi, which meant the Versafine would not dry well. I coated with clear embossing powder so that I could heat set it and prevent smudging, but quickly decided to coat the whole washi piece with the powder as it would have been too difficult to remove the excess from it otherwise, because I’d not used my anti static powder tool.

With all my elements ready I all that remained to do was adhering to my card base. I chose one that matched the purple of the mermaids.

I think I prefer the previous couple of mermaid cards I made to this one but I still had a lot of fun with it. I think if I had been able to create the wreath with the mermaids a bit more spaced out I probably would have preferred that. What do you think?

Don’t forget this is part of a collaboration, so make sure to jump over to YouTube, click on the hashtag, and join in! You can also join in over on Instagram as well.

Love,

Lady Joyful

  1. What a fabulously creative wreath! They remind me of synchronised swimmers too.
Thanks for the heads up on my card for Christmas Craft Creations. None of my links were working – I’m still coming to grips with the new Blogger platform!
