Autumn Thanks | Cards Und More Guest Designer

I was lucky enough to be the winner of the July challenge over at Cards Und More, which meant I was invited to guest design with them this month! If you’re not familiar with them Cards Und More is a craft shop in Germany, and they hold a monthly challenge with a mood board to use as inspiration. You can see this month’s mood board below. How you interpret the mood board is up to you.

I took particular inspiration from the leaf image in the top centre of the board. I dug through my stash and found a maple leaf die that I thought would work well. Initially I was thinking I would cut the die from some glitter card as the leaves in the image look glittery, but I didn’t have any in suitable colours. Instead I pulled in some snippets of card based on the colours at the bottom of the mood board. I chose a brown and a cream, and also wanted a burgandy colour. I ended up making the burgandy colour myself by colouring over a rich red card with a purple Spectrum Noir Illustrator Marker. I still wanted the leaves to be glittery so I used my Wink of Stella clear glitter brush pen to add several layers of glitter to each leaf and set them aside.

The mood board also has some great texture in it from the wood wreath, burlap, etc. I wanted to work that into my project somehow too. I decided I would create a softly textured background panel for the leaves to go on. For this I took a white panel cut a little smaller than my card base and embossed it with the Subtle embossing folder from Stampin’ Up. The texture is a bit difficult to see in the pictures, but it achieved the look I was after.

For my sentiment I decided to use Pink & Main’s Thanks die. After having another look at the colours for the mood board I decide to use a charcoal grey. The snippet I had was a later grey than I was looking for, so I again used my markers to change the colour. And as I had with the leaves I used my Wink of Stella to add several layers of glitter.

I chose a card base made with the same creamy colour as I had used for the cream leaf, and used the Wink of Stella to add glitter around the edges of that too. I then adhered the embossed panel onto the card base, and added the die cut elements on with Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue. Finally I used Love From Lizi Gold Glitter Pinstripe Peel-Offs to edge my panel and also to act as the strings that the leaves appear to be hanging from.

It is always hard to capture the sparkle in photos, but you can at least see some of the shimmer on this project! I’m really pleased with how the card turned out and I hope it inspires you to come and join in with the challenge. And thanks to Dunja and the Cards Und More team for having me as a guest designer!
