Collected Crafty Collabs Hop | Halloween/Fall and Sequins

It’s hop time again! The Collected Crafty Collabs hop is all about making use of supplies that we’ve squirreled away and perhaps don’t give as much love as we should. We’ll have two themes each month, and for Setpember those are Halloween/Fall and Sequins. I decided to use both on my project. If you’ve already been hopping and joined me from Danielle, then welcome! And if I’m your first stop on the hop don’t worry, I’ll have information on how you can keep hopping later in this post.

I decided I would make a shaker card, which is one of my absolute favourite ways to use sequins! I used the negative die cut piece from my recent See-Through Die Cut Card to be the front of my shaker window. I put Glossy Accents on the back of the panel to adhere my acetate. Liquid glue is not normally my preference for shaker windows and I did have some seep out, but I felt like it was the best and quickest option here, because of the fiddly pieces of the leaf shapes.

I then die cut the panel with one of the Kat Scrappiness Never Ending Rectangle Dies. Usually I would cut before adding the acetate but this time I did it the other way, again because of the fiddly bits of the leaves. I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t lose any pieces if they were cut through. I ran the piece through my die cutting machine twice, even with a metal shim, but the die did not want to cut through the acetate, so I ended up using my craft knife to finish cutting it.

Next I created a frame to go over my shaker. I chose some pearlised brown cardstock, and die cut it again with Kat Scrappiness Never Ending Rectangle Dies. I used the ones that were sized either side of the one I used the panel, that is the one just larger, and the one just smaller. I then used double-sided tape to adhere the leaf patterned shaker window onto the frame.

As I have very little foam tape at the moment I cut down some narrow strips of fun foam to create the dimension for my shaker. I then adhered them onto the back of the frame. I put double-sided tape and glossy accents onto the back of the fun foam to make sure it would adhere into place very securely. Before adding it onto my kraft card base I placed my sequins, which are Kat Scrappiness’s Autumn Harvest Sequin Mix, as well as some glitter directly onto the card base making sure they were within the bounds of where the frame would be placed. I then positioned the frame, pressed it into place, and left it with some heavy weights on top to hold it down whilst the glue set.

For my sentiment I cut a snippet of white card with Pink & Main’s Thanks die. I then heat embossed it with two layers of WOW! Chocolate Caramel Pearl Embossing Powder. Finally I adhered it to my shaker window with Glossy Accents.

I hope you enjoyed this card. I had wanted to do a video with it, but ran out of time to get it edited. Hopefully I’ll have one for next month’s hop though! I’m very glad I was able to find a use for the leftover piece from my die cut leaves. I actually still have enough to make a second of these which I may do at some point. The shaker doesn’t shake quite as well as I would like as it is a bit low profile because the foam is not very thick, but it at least shakes a bit so that’s good!

Lady Joyful

  1. Charlotte, your card is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the alcohol inked piece and the glitter background!!! Totally CASEing that idea! However, my shaker card was equally fiddly and I have sworn off shakers for awhile until I forget the trauma I suffered after doing 2 this month… 1 I have yet to post (for Virginia’s birthday) but it was seriously fiddly. Glad I’m not the only one who finds shaker cards trying. Your card was totally worth the extra effort though as it is so beautiful! I feel so blessed that you are part of my little hop group, my friend! 😊
