Glowing Halloween | Month of Celebration

I’m having a celebration! I recently reached 2000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, plus it’s my birthday month. All month long I’m going to be creating videos, and the more you comment on the more chances you’ll have to win a prize! Check out the original video to hear all about it, then leave a comment on the video, and head over to the Rafflecopter to confirm your entry. Commenting on today’s video is just one way to get an extra entry towards the prize draw. The card for this video is also part of an Instagram hop, so be sure to check that out too over on my Instagram page.

My starting point for this card was a panel I made a couple of years ago and never got around to using. I had made the panel by pattern stamping the monsters from Lawn Fawn’s Monster Mash onto some watercolour paper and white heat embossing them. I then smooshed lots of Spiced Marmalade Distress ink onto the panel for an embossed resist look.

I chose to use a black card base and added interest by stamping Love From Lizi’s Candystripe Background stamp onto it and heat embossing with WOW! Glow-in-the-Dark embossing powder. I didn’t remember until afterwards that the embossing powder won’t actually glow on a dark background, so for the glow effect I should have heat embossed in white first and then embossed over the top of the white with the glow in the dark powder. I like how the stripes look though, even if they don’t actually glow.

Next I trimmed down my monster patterned focal panel, and created a mat for it out of some black specialty card that has an almost chalkboard-like finish to it. I gutted away the centre (as I like to preserve my specialty cards as much as possible), making a sort of C-shaped piece, then cut down some chipboard to fill the centre of that C, basically the same size as the piece I’d cut out. That enabled me to add some dimension and stability to my patterned piece. I used a black Spectrum Noir Illustrator marker to go around the edge of the specialty card in order to disguise the white core, and did the same with the chipboard before adhering all the pieces into place.

As a final touch I added some Banana Split Nuvo Glow Drops, which also glow in the dark.

Don’t forget to leave a comment over on YouTube, and complete the Rafflecopter for a chance to win my giveaway prize, and head over to my Instagram page to join in with the hop.
