Watercolor Mushroom | Month of Celebration

We’re into day 5 of my month of daily videos to celebrate both reaching 2000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, and it being my birthday month. All month long I’m going to be creating videos, and the more you comment on the more chances you’ll have to win a prize! Check out the original video to hear all about it, then leave a comment on the video, and head over to the Rafflecopter to confirm your entry. Commenting on today’s video is just one way to get an extra entry towards the prize draw.

I thought I’d have a go at some watercolouring for today’s card. First I stamped a mushroom from an old Hero Arts kit (here’s another mushroom stamp that would be a good alternative, and I have a few others listed in my video description on YouTube) onto a snippet of watercolour card and heat embossed it with WOW! Chocolate Caramel Pearl Embossing Powder.

For my watercoloring I used the Hero Arts Autumn Blessings Layering Cubes. I squished each ink pad onto a piece of packaging, spritzed with water, and used those to paint my image. I am not a very confident watercolorist, but I worked from darkest to lightest and built up layers until I felt I’d achieved the look I was after (or as close to it as I felt I could manage!)

I spritzed more water onto the remaining ink and dragged a snippet strip of watercolor card through it, coloring the strip to coordinate with my painted image. I dried it, then heat embossed Catherine Pooler’s BFF Background stamp onto it with the Chocolate Caramel Pearl Embossing Powder. I used the same embossing powder to add my sentiment onto the card base.

With all the elements prepared I simply had to adhere everything down to my white card base. I finished off by adding some Love From Lizi Brown Mirror Pinstripe Peel-Offs along the edge of the patterned panel.

Whilst I do think I can improve on the watercoloring, I’m really happy with how this card turned out. It’s almost exactly how I had in mind when I came up with the idea! The layout did change as I went along, as discussed in the video, but for the most part it’s quite true to what I had imagined.Don’t forget to leave a comment over on YouTube, and complete the Rafflecopter for a chance to win my giveaway prize.

Love,
