Thrifty Thursday | Witch

It’s time for Thrifty Thursday at Stamper’s Delights. This time I’m using Witch On A Broom from the Halloween Mystery Box, which is on sale. You can see inspiration for some of the other included images from the rest of the team, so be sure to visit the Thrifty Thursday Deals blog post for that. Also be sure to check out the information on the Halloween Mystery Box.

This is also one of my daily videos for the Month of Celebration. If you’re not sure what the month of celebration is, I’m celebrating both reaching 2000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, and it being my birthday month. All month long I’m going to be creating videos, and the more you comment on the more chances you’ll have to win a prize! Check out the original video to hear all about it, then leave a comment on the video, and head over to the Rafflecopter to confirm your entry. Commenting on today’s video is just one way to get an extra entry towards the prize draw.

I started by creating a very easy night sky background. I cut a panel of watercolour paper and used a paintbrush to dampen the surface. I then sprinkled colour onto it with Brusho in grey and black, Brusho SprinkleIt in Iridescent Violet, and Nuvo Shimmer Powder in Stormcloud. The paper had dried very quickly and the colour wasn’t moving much as a result, so I used a damp paintbrush to move the colour and help it blend. I then sprinkled more powder on, using Sunray Crosette to add some golden starriness, and a little more Stormcloud to ensure the gold wasn’t overpowering.

I dried the paint with my WOW! Dual Speed Heat Gun, then added splatters of watered down white acrylic to give the impression of stars. I then set the panel aside to finish drying.

I used Word to size and arrange my image and sentiment before printing them onto some Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock.

I then used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour the image in. I used tans for the witch’s skin and earth browns for her hair. I under painted her outfit with reddish browns before going over the whole thing with red. I completed her outfit with brown greys, before colouring her broomstick with earthy browns for the handle and golden browns for the bristles.

With all of the colouring completed I fussy cut the witch image out, and edged with a black, water-based, brush tip marker to hide the white core of the paper. I then also cut the watercolour piece with a die cut circle.

I decided I wanted to mount the die cut circle and sentiment onto mats. After considering options I chose a silver sheen cardstock, slightly less shiny than a true mirror card. I gutted away the inner parts of each mat so that I could use them in future.

I used Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to adhere all the elements together as well as to adhere them to my card base. The end of the broom was slightly over the edge of the card as I misjudged positioning. As it was only a very small overhang I decided not to trim it off, but I did colour the back of the overhanging piece black with the same marker I’d used to edge my fussy cut pieces, making it look tidier if anyone were to view it from the back.

I’m rather pleased with how this card turned out, even if I did have one or two issues along the way. The pigment powders really are such a quick and easy way to create a background and worked so nicely for making this sky. I’m quite proud of my colouring on the image too. Please do leave a comment and let me know what you thought. Don’t forget to hop over to the Thrifty Thursday Deals blog post for full information, as well as inspiration from the rest of the team. Plus don’t forget to leave a comment over on YouTube, and complete the Rafflecopter for a chance to win my giveaway prize.
