Stampers Delights – Kawaii Release | Autumn Leaves

It’s release day at Stampers Delights and I have an adorable digi to play with from this new kawaii release. You can see the new release images further down this post, plus lots of information and inspiration in the release post here. I used the Autumn Leaves set to create this cute one layer card.

The Autumn Leaves set comes with two images – a girl with some leaves, and a pumpkin with an acorn and more leaves! I arranged both of the images in Word before printing them directly onto my card base.

I then coloured the images with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. The exact colours I used can be seen in the video. I started with the girls’ skin for which I used TN markers, working from darkest to lightest and shadowing as if my light is coming from the top right, which is my usual way to approach colouring.

Next I moved on to her hair. The girl is drawn as if she has curly hair and I wanted to emphasise this in my colouring. To that end I added my colour in c-shapes, which gives texture to the image. I mostly used Earth Browns, but also bought in a dark Golden Brown for some extra interest.

My pumpkin was of course coloured orange and I used almost the same combination, swapping the lightest colour, to give the girl orange tights, gloves and belt, as well as some of the stripes on her scarf and hat. I went with two types of yellows for the other stripes, then finished off the hat with some greys to make the trim and bobble appear white.

For the rest of her outfit I used red and greens, toning them back to keep with the autumnal theme rather than making them bright. I used the red for her jacket, onto which I added yellow buttons, and green for her dress and boots.

The last of the colouring was the leaves in the scene. I used various browns, greens, yellows and even some red for these, again sticking with the idea of muted colours for an autumnal feel.

With the colouring done I moved onto my background. I masked off the ground of my scene than laid Catherine Pooler’s Marching Leaves stencil into place. Using a small blending brush I ink blended through the stencil, taking card to avoid my image. I started with Tiara ink through the entire area I wanted coloured. I then added Tiki Torch and finally Tea Dye. With the latter two inks I didn’t cover the whole stencil, only adding in a few places to give some texture and interest to the colours of the leaves.

After removing the stencil I took an even smaller ink blending brush and used the Tea Dye again, this time to add some shadowing beneath my images to indicate ground.

The final touch on my design was a sentiment from Love From Lizi’s Hello Autumn stamp set, which I stamped with Hero Arts Cocoa ink.

I hope you found this inspiring as a way to use some of the new release images. There’s more inspiration from the team in the release blog post.

Love,

Charlotte E (Lady Joyful)
