Meow-lloween Sky | Month of Celebration

In my recent Five Fast Cards video for the Back To Basics hop I mentioned an idea for a Halloween card using the branch stamp, and several people asked me to make it. So I did! I of course also incorporated a cat so that this could be my entry for the Cat Lovers’ Hop today. And I recorded a video as part of my month of celebration. Of course the process video didn’t save properly… So instead I have a card share video in which I talk through the process of making the card.

If you’re not sure what the month of celebration is, I’m celebrating both reaching 2000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, and it being my birthday month. All month long I’m going to be creating videos, and the more you comment on the more chances you’ll have to win a prize! Check out the original video to hear all about it, then leave a comment on the video, and head over to the Rafflecopter to confirm your entry. Commenting on today’s video is just one way to get an extra entry towards the prize draw.

The process started with stamping and heat embossing the branches from Catherine Pooler’s Happy Together onto a panel of white card. I stamped it around the edges pointing in towards the centre leaving space for my cat, and heat embossed in black.

Next I worked on ink blending my background. I started out by applying my inks direct to paper, that is by gently rubbing the pads on the paper. I first used Tiara in the centre, then Tiki Torch slightly overlapping and bringing the colour further out. I then continued moving through my colours from the Tiki Torch into Tutti Frutti, then Party Dress and finally Flirty Fuschia. I then bought in my ink blending brushes and continued blending through the colours to get the blend nice and smooth.

In order to darken up my night sky I blended across the panel from the outsides towards the centre with Twilight ink, which muted the brightness of the colours slightly. I then darkened it up even further by repeating the process with Midnight ink.

Setting my ink blended panel I worked on my cat. I used Simon Says Stamp’s Witch Cat die to cut a snippet of black card. I then used Derwent Artist Pencils to add some colour to the edges of the die cut piece. Keeping the colours of my sky in mind I added orange to everywhere that would be hit by light coming from the right, and red for everywhere that it would be coming from the left. I did this in order to give a glow of sorts to the edges of the cat and leave the impression that he is being illuminated by the colourful sky.

I white heat embossed a sentiment onto my background panel, picking one from Simon Says Stamp’s Creepy Cute which I think may be retired. I then adhered the background panel to my black card base with double sided tape, added a strip of black across to act as my grounding, and adhered the cat into position with Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue.

I hope you like the card! Don’t forget to leave a comment over on YouTube, and complete the Rafflecopter for a chance to win my giveaway prize for the Month Of Celebration.

Love,
