Inspired Saturdays Collab | Brushstroke Florals

I’m excited to be joining Alicia of Call Me Crafty Al for her Inspired Saturdays Collaboration this week. The idea of the collaboration is that we each create a project inspired by the other. I was inspired by a back to school card that Alicia made – you can see the video here or find it on Instagram here.

I decided to go with florals for my card and started by stamping one of the flowers from Altenew’s Wild Hibiscus as well as a sentiment from the Build-A-Flower: Sakura Blossom set directly onto a 5″ by 3 3/4″ panel with Altenew Jet Black ink.

Next I positioned one of the brush stroke stamps from Love From Lizi’s Smudges And Sentiments stamp set over the stem and stamped with Altenew Frayed Leaf ink. I did this on all three panels, then switched to the largest brush stroke stamp from the set and positioned it over the head of the flower on one panel. I stamped this in Altenew Volcano Lake for one panel, Ocean Waves for the next and Lavender Fields for the last one, then restamped the flowers over top with the help of my MISTI and the Jet Black ink for a nice crisp impression.

I added some dimension to each of the flowers with a pencil and blending stump to give a bit of shading. In hindsight I think I would have been better off leaving this out as I feel like it just makes it look as though the black ink has been smudged.

As Alicia’s card had grey mats I wanted to create some for my own but couldn’t find any suitable grey card. I decided to make my own faux mats by colouring some white card with Hero Arts Soft Granite ink and then trimming them to narrow strips with the help of the MISTI Cut Align. I then used Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to adhere my stamped panels onto their coordinating card bases before adhering the grey strips around the edges with the help of my EK Success Craft Tweezers and Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen.

Whilst I think I overcomplicated the process in regards to the mats, I’m pretty happy with how these cards turned out. I’m not sure which colour palette I like best. Which is your favourite? Don’t forget that this is part of a collab. Head over to YouTube and check the video description for all of the details. Thank you Alicia for having me along for the collaboration, and I look forward to seeing what you made inspired by me!

Love,

Charlotte E (Lady Joyful)

  1. I think these are the most amazing cards and talk about CAS perfection!! Just love the simplicity of the brushstroke stamp over the flower instead of spending ages colouring it in. Its very modern and clean. And the font for the sentiment just goes with it so beautifully. Stunning cards and I’m so very happy you shared them with us at The Flower Challenge!
