CIC 514 | Cool Cat | Cats

We have a fun new challenge at Cupcake Inspirations. Our theme for the next couple of weeks is Cats. You can make anything you like as long as it has one or more cats on it!

I went clean and simple for my design, and started with a purple card base. I stamped onto it with Love From Lizi’s Candystripe Background stamp in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I was having trouble with an area not stamping properly, so I used a black pencil to fill in the blank area of the stripes. I also used the pencil and my T-Square ruler to add a border line along the edge of the striped portion.

For my cat I used Heffy Doodle’s Mewniverse stamp set, and stamped using MFT’s Black hybrid ink. I added some simple shading to the cat with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I then fussy cut the cat out.

Next I die cut a scrap of vellum with the smallest of the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Oval dies. I stamped a sentiment from Your Next Stamp’s Cool Cats stamp set and heat embossed with Love From Lizi’s Pastel Purple Party embossing powder. I then used the Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen to add glue behind the lettering and in the area of the cat so that I could adhere the vellum into place without the glue showing through.

As a final touch I added three trios of Nuvo Drops around the sentiment in a visual triangle. I used Simply White, Ebony Black, and Wisteria Purple. I tried to put some of the drops over the edge of the vellum to further help hold it down. Doing that has worked well for me before but unfortunately it ended up with the drops being a bit messy this time.

Despite the mishap with the drops I’m quite pleased with how this card turned out. In my head when I was coming up with the idea I imagined the cat being bigger, but obviously with it being a physical stamp I’m limited to the size it actually is. I think it works well enough though, despite being on the small side. I hope this inspires you to come and join in with our challenge. You can find more beautiful inspiration from the rest of the design team on the challenge page or directly on their blogs via the links below.

  1. That is definitely one cool cat, Charlotte! I love that you kept your design CAS and let him be the star of the card – so vibrant in purple! The striped stamp edge is a wonderful addition and I love the schparkle of the vellum sediment! Thank you so much for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Take care and keep well! Hugs, Darnell

  2. And that is one cool design for that cat to hang out in. So simple but so many little details to take in. Thanks for joining us at STAMPlorations CAS Cards Challenge this month.
