CIC 516 | Aloha! | Dreaming of Summer

Today is the start of a new challenge at Cupcake Inspirations. Our theme this time around is Dreaming of Summer, and we’re sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps who are providing a $12 Gift Code as a prize to our lucky randomly chosen winner, so be sure to join in for a chance at the prize. We’re also partnering with Double Trouble Challenges for double the fun. Their challenge goes live a few hours after ours, but once it is up you can enter your cards for our challenge into their challenge too!

For my card I used the Summer Collage digi stamp from our sponsor, Bugaboo Stamps. I printed it onto a piece of alcohol marker friendly paper, then coloured it in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I tried to limit my colour palette somewhat, and reuse the same colours repeatedly throughout the design to keep it from getting too overly busy. Once I was happy with the colouring I used my trust white gel pens to add further detail to the images. I then trimmed the panel to fit my chosen yellow card base and adhered it into place with double sided tape.

For my sentiment I decided to use the aloha die from Love From Lizi. I cut the word layer from a snippet of black backed with double sided tape, then did the shadow layer with the same shade of yellow as my card base. I adhered the two layers together, then used my Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen to glue the finished die cut piece onto the card base, completing my simple card.

I had fun colouring the images on this design. I’ve still been struggling with my crafty mojo, which has been an ongoing struggle for a number of months now, but I always do enjoy colouring when I take the time to sit back and do it. I think I could have improved by better planning the positioning of the colours I used so that it would be more pleasing to the eye (for example, I’m not happy with the pink watermelon right next to the pink flamingo) but overall I am pleased with the result. I hope this inspires you to come and join in with our challenge, as well as the Double Trouble collaboration challenge. Remember that if you play along with us you could win a gift code to spend at Bugaboo Stamps. If you’d like more inspiration, check out the designs from the rest of the team over on the challenge site, or directly at their own blogs via the links below.

  1. What a fabulous card, Charlotte! I especially like the way you squared off the card creating an excellent layout for your images. Thank you for playing along with us at Double Trouble Challenge #81. (My late brother lived on Oahu so I was blessed to have had frequent vacations in Hawai’i.)
