Perfectly CAS Challenge | Rainbow Wishes | Wings

This month at Perfectly CAS our theme is wings. I went with butterflies for my card, but anything that has wings would be suitable! That could be bees, birds, maybe even a plane! Don’t forget the title of our challenge though – Perfectly CAS. We’re looking for clean and simple designs, specifically using no more than a third of the card space for the design. Just following the wings theme isn’t enough if you don’t take the CAS aspect into account. If you’re not sure, you can check the explanation on our How To Play page.

I had a pretty clear idea in mind of how I wanted this card to look, so I started by checking through my stamps to see what butterflies I had that would work for it. I needed them to be on the smaller side to keep within the third and stay CAS. I chose Love From Lizi’s Flutterby stamp set and placed one of the smaller butterfly stamps into my MISTI. I cut a white panel from a large snippet and stamped it with MFT’s Black hybrid ink, then shifted the panel so that I could repeatedly stamp them evenly spaced all along the side of the panel.

Once the stamping was completed I used the coordinating Flutterby stencil to colour one butterfly at a time, in a rainbow gradient. I used Scrapbook.com Sponge Daubers to apply the colour more precisely, and used Catherine Pooler inks in Party Dress, Tutti FruttiTiki TorchTiaraLime RickeySomething Borrowed and Flirty Fuschia.

I backed the panel with double sided tape then used the MISTI Cut Align and a craft knife to cut a line centred in the blank space between the butterflies. I then used my Tim Holtz Mini Snips to fussy cut off the remainder of the white hand side past the centred line. I then adhered the panel to a dark blue card base and trimmed off the excess.

The sentiment wasn’t included in my initial plan but after some contemplation I decided to use the Best Wishes sentiment from Love From Lizi’s Background Builder Set 1. I chose a snippet of silver, backed it with double sided tape, then ran it through my Altenew Mini Blossom die cutting machine. The sentiment is pretty delicate, and I found it was easier to remove the unnecessary negative parts so as to not warp the wording. I then used my reverse tweezers to lift the pieces off the backing paper and adhere them onto the card base, slightly overlapping the butterflies.

I’m rather pleased with how this card turned out. The cutting isn’t quite as neat as I would have liked, and it would probably have been easier if I had a die for cutting instead, but I also think that the unevenness is not too noticeable. I hope this inspires you to come and join in with our challenge.
