Has anyone told you today that you’re lovely? Well, you are! We are all lovely in our own ways. Whether we’re blonde, brunette, or… purple, pink and orange? I kinda want hair like this!
I started my card with a snippet of X-Press It Blending Card, which is alcohol marker friendly. I cut it with a circle die, then placed it into my MISTI. First I stamped the hat, then the hair and eye stamp, both from Concord & 9th’s Fashion Wear Stamp Set. I stamped them with MFT Black Hybrid ink. I then also added the lips, using a little ink pad lid as a stamp block.
Hair: PV3, HB2, MG3, MG1, BO2, BO1, CT4, IG2
Hat: IG6, IG2
Skin: HB1, GB9, GB4, GB2, TN3, TN1, FS7
Lips: PP5
I then got started on my colouring using Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. The colours I used are all listed on the left. I coloured her hair first. The whole card design was inspired by an “unusual hair colour” challenge theme, and I think I achieved it! I kept the hat simple with just a little grey shading so that it wouldn’t compete with the hair.
With the skin I always start by covering the entire area with my lightest (the FS7 in this case), then use a purple (HB1) into the shadow areas, followed by working darkest to lightest. I was worried initially about drawing in the face and neck, and there was a moment that I thought I had really messed up my design, but eventually it came together and doesn’t look too bad.
Having completed the colouring I moved the circle panel onto my purple card base and tried to work out how I wanted to do my sentiment. My original plan was to make a sentiment strip, but I quickly decided I wanted to stamp the sentiment directly, and have it partially on the card base and partially on the focal panel.
I achieved the effect I was after by using my MISTI to stamp, and having a piece of washi tape as a hinge for the circle. I lined up the ‘lovely’ stamp whilst the circle was in position, lifted thee lid of my MISTI and stamped the word onto the card base using Altenew Deep Iris ink. I then flipped back down and stamped it onto the circle. I repeated the process with the ‘you’re’, completing my sentiment. I did also use a white pencil to outline the portion of lovely that is overlapping the hair, just to help it stand out a bit better.
All that was left was to adhere the circle into place, making sure the sentiment still lined up nicely, and the card was complete.
I really am rather pleased with how this came out. Definitely more colourful than yesterday’s monochromatic design! And I know I said it already in the intro, but I want my hair like that please. I’m sure it wouldn’t be as impressive in real life though. At least, not for long. I imagine it wouldn’t take too long to fade and for the colours to run together. Not so on the card though!
Love,
Charlotte E (Lady Joyful)

I want my hair colorful like that, too, Charlotte, but I would need a wig because my hair is too short. I love the hat, too, and I think you did a great job with the alignment of the letters! Thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell
