CIC 523 | Because Bear | Blue, Lime, Yellow

We are in the midst of our blue, lime and yellow challenge at Cupcake Inspirations, and I’m back to share my reminder card with you. We’re sponsored by Di’s Digi Stamps, and one lucky person who plays along will win 2 digi stamps of their choice, so it is definitely worth joining in!

I started my card by printing my image, which is called Umbrella Bear and is of course from Di’s Digi Stamps. I couldn’t find the exact image when I searched, so it may have been a limited time one, but here’s a link to some of their other images involving umbrellas. I printed it into a piece of X-Press It Blending Card, and then die cut it with a Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Oval die.

Next I worked on colouring the image in. For the bears on my card for the launch of the challenge I went with a yellow combination for their fur. This time I decided to go more neutral on the fur with a brown combination with a hint of warmth to it. I thought it would work well for the more delicate design I had in mind.

I used more or less the same blue and green combinations as I had on my previous card, changing up the yellow slightly as it wasn’t for fur this time. The yellow I used sparingly, just in the flower centre and the handle of the umbrella. I also used grey to shade the flower itself. Once I was happy with all the colouring I also used white gel pen to add highlights in certain areas.

I decided to use a cream card base for this card, as it sort of pulls in a bit more of the yellow from the colour palette. I felt like there needed to be something between the card base and the image. After some consideration I decided to add some embossed vellum, using the Art Deco embossing folder by Xcut which I got in a Love From Lizi card kit. I’ve had success embossing vellum for other projects, but for some reason with this one it just kept cracking. Eventually I got a version that seemed good enough so I used that.

I lined the vellum up on my card base so that I could ascertain the position of my focal panel. I adhered the focal panel onto the vellum with double sided tape, then added my sentiment overlapping it. The sentiment is from STAMPlorations‘ Just Because (which is now retired), and is heat embossed on white on black. With all the elements adhered onto the vellum I flipped it over and added tape such that it would be hidden behind the other panels, before adhering the panel onto the card base.

I’ll be honest, I don’t love this card. It’s a bit… fussy? Or something. I don’t think it is bad exactly, it’s just not to my taste.
