Green and Kraft Teepee

Green and Kraft TeepeeLast month I made very few cards, and blogged about less. I’ve missed the card making though. I find making cards to be something of a stress relief. That’s in a way amusing, because part of the reason I hadn’t been making them was that I was feeling too stressed! What a conundrum!

Anyway, over the last few days I’ve been thinking about getting back into it. Today I went looking through the currently available challenges and as a result decided to throw this card together. The layout comes from Freshly Made Sketches and the colour scheme (green, kraft and cream) is from Color Throwdown. I am also entering it to Pixie’s Snippet Playground.

My first step was deciding what to use for the “any shape” from the sketch. I settled on the Teepee from my new Avery Elle Home Sweet Home stamp set. I decided to stamp it directly onto a snippet of kraft paper. I then carefully fussy cut it.

Next was the panel. With the kraft part done, and the card base meeting the cream requirement, I went for a green panel. I tried to find a suitable patterned paper but didn’t have any. And the only greens I could find initially seemed too bright or too pale. Luckily I did find some darker green in the back of my cupboard though.

The green seemed a bit boring though. I considered adding a subtle pattern but didn’t have any suitable ink, so instead I just stamped the sentiment directly onto the green panel, with some of the pattern stamps from the set separating the phrase.

Then it was just a case of assembly. I used my tape runner for everything, leaving the card pretty flat. I considered dimensionals behind the teepee, but decided that would be too fiddly what with the skinny sticks at the top.

Green and Kraft Teepee 2Overall I’m pretty happy with the card. It’s clean and simple, meets the challenge requirements, and was quick to put together whilst still looking good once finished. I think I could play with this design a bit more and improve it, but I feel it’s a good return to card making!

Love,

Lady Joyful
